Leafs fans are (frank)ing nuts.

If the Leafs are considering flipping the 15 OA for a top defenceman, their options do seem a bit limited. Ryan Ellis is probably the most logical fit I can come up with.

The 15th pick netted Kapanen. It's now going to be worth Ryan (frank)ing Ellis? Holy (frank)ing delusional nonsense!

Strome to me is too slow for the playing in the high paced eastern conference. That is just me

Sorta like sam. Not the greatest speed or skating

- Sabretooth9

Don't get me wrong i like buffalo actually watch a lot of buffalo games but if rossi is there at 8 take him if he gone then lundell or holtz imo. Strome is an average skater its his accerleration and agility but is loaded with skill.

Agreed. Sam is the same way. I would pass on Strome just for that

Agreed, but the 15th overall pick is not getting Ryan Ellis. No chance.

I agree. Our other flavour of the month Monahan is literally if Sam moved to the middle and disregarded playing defence.

I’ve honestly liked Monahan since his draft year. I would gladly take him on the roster.

He scores 25-30 goals on a yearly basis ..... the past few years he’s had season point goals of 62, 63, 58 , 64, 82, and this year 48.

I mean....... he gives us 25-30 goals at 2C and 60 points. We take that alllll day every day. He was the flames 1C. So he will definitely get more favorable matchups since we have Eichel.

He’s 25 ... so his play won’t fall off a cliff just yet.

Curtis Lazar had a higher WAR than Monahan this season.

Cozens would also go top 5 in a redraft if they had a redo this year. He’s a much better prospect than any of those players mentioned.

- Pegullaville

Yeah I don’t wanna trade the pick necessarily, but there’s a solid chance the 8th overall pick is either 2 years away from anything, or just nothing at all.

We’re gonna lose Eichel

Minnesota didn’t want to wait for Alex Tuch to develop.

Anaheim thought it would be smart to let Theodore walk, why wait a few years when you can protect Montour and Vantanen who can play now.

Then Vegas turned around and dealt the Habs their new first line Center for Max Pacioretty because I mean why wait for Suzuki to make an impact at the NHL level.

There are ways to address “the now” without giving up a premium asset for Center that Flames fans can’t wait to ship out of town.

If Calgary won’t accept a package surrounding the 2021 pick, one of Risto/Montour, plus prospects then bid adieu.

The Sabres don’t have the prospect pool to piss away an 8th OA pick for a middle of the pack 2C whom can’t defend if his life depended on it

- Pegullaville

Agreed.
I do hope Adams has multiple sticks in the fire

SO do it the Botts way still and trade 3rd and 4th rd picks to get C and D level players and play them in A and B spots.

Pros and cons of keeping #8.

There really isn't a solid argument to dismiss either option. There's a chance that 8 is awesome. There's an even greater chance that he isn't. But if he is good to great, he's young and cheap. Whoever we trade the 8 for is not going to be an ELC, but they will be fully established. Maybe they'll be better than that #8. Maybe they won't. But at least you have a sure talent, and probably a long term 2C. And maybe he's tradable if and when Cozens can come in.

One thing is for certain, that #8 is not going to make an impact this year. And we seem to be pressed up against a wall when it comes to needing to be good this year.

I vote to trade it, knowing all the above.

I don't think anyone really wants to trade the 8th pick, and trading it doesn't guarantee anything, other moves still have to be made. But the pressure cooker is about to explode and things need to move along now, not 2yrs down the road.

They need to win now. Yet they hire a rookie gm and I don’t think any assistants with extensive backgrounds. I think we all should temper our expectations

rookie gm
shortened season
expansion draft
lots of quality prospects for our rookie gm to assess
top 8 pick that should be an impact player
one of the best prospects not playing in the nhl in cozens

settle down hot sauce and tap the breaks for a bit

do a tweak or 2, do not make a move to put us in a bad place

build around eichel, dahlin and cozens

Oh your right on the expectations, hopefully Adams surprises, he was handed a poop show. Funny how you can say that for 3 GM's in a row now.

Weird thing is they have some decent pieces and a superstar, but never seem to find the other pieces to complete the puzzle. Seems there always trying to fit a square piece into a round hole.

You vote to trade it without acknowledging all the other options they have to upgrade the Center position that do not include trading Cozens or the 8th overall.

The trade ideas posed by the Blackhawks writer in this very blog, for example.

Adams was not handed the poop Botterill was. This organization is way closer to being legitimate than when he started.

It's what he did at the NHL, the lack of progress over three entire years, the lack of vision, the uncoordinated staff he oversaw. He did some good things, but not nearly enough to push this team forward.

Adams has more pieces in place at all levels than Botts did. But this time, he needs to make these pieces, and find pieces, that actually fit into this roster, this system, and make them work as a machine instead of a bunch of parts.

Ding Ding, there are other options. I can't see him trading 8 just for Monahan. There's got to be more to it, especially with a team like Calgary were half there D are UFA'S.

I'll rephrase.

I'll use the pick on an established player if it makes sense. I am not in the 'do not trade it ever' category.

ship out a few d men to get a different one, or a guy up front

if reinhart is not in your plans, doubt it, explore trading him

I think 1 or 2 tweaks, and let the ufa's walk, and sign a vet on a short deal will keep us in a good place moving forward

god help us if the rookie gm makes a few bad trades and puts us in 2013 territory

I mentioned yesterday that I wouldn't do 8 for Monahan. That trade needs more substance to justify it.

But also, see my clarification above.

You said it better then me, but when your a rookie GM and coming into a team with only what 7 players under contract and your superstar C throwing logs on the fire, seems to me a little bit of a poop show.
