The Buffalo Sabres are absolutely a poop show. No question. But Adams and co have a real opportunity to start shaping this roster, hopefully for the better. We have some nice RFAs, a pair of superstars, and a burgeoning prospect pool. No, we don't have top tier talent other than Cozens, but there's plenty of bottom 9 and bottom 4 D to fill our team in with in the coming years. That needs to continue, and Adams needs to find some mid round impact players, but I digress.

I'm not saying "The Sabres have cap space" but I am saying that he absolutely has options to flip players and release UFAs.

Adams was not handed the poop Botterill was. This organization is way closer to being legitimate than when he started.

It's what he did at the NHL, the lack of progress over three entire years, the lack of vision, the uncoordinated staff he oversaw. He did some good things, but not nearly enough to push this team forward.

Adams has more pieces in place at all levels than Botts did. But this time, he needs to make these pieces, and find pieces, that actually fit into this roster, this system, and make them work as a machine instead of a bunch of parts.

I think 1 or 2 tweaks, and let the ufa's walk, and sign a vet on a short deal will keep us in a good place moving forward

Agree again, Calgary is gonna have to fill atleast 2 to 3 D spots, half there D core are UFA'S and that is a position we could help them fill. I want to keep Rhino, unless his contract demands are outrageous.

I think Reinhart for Monahan, in a vacuum, is a perfectly fine and simple trade.

It just makes zero realistic sense as you allude to above.

Just an idea:
Do trade offer from Chicago
Strome sikrua and matta for mitts and Johansson
Then trade risto for a needed winger/ young d prospect. Draft lundell at 8 because i think rossi will be gone. Lundell becomes 3rd line shutdown center put cozens on the wing and let him grow. Strome buys buffalo time for cozens to develop at wing or center.

That's still very fair, but picking up Bennett, who is the kind of player this team is ostensibly looking for, and giving up a guy who will probably be Bennett in a few years made it an easy yes.

They'll never take Risto.
