I think it's pretty idiotic that police officers are giving water away to people that have guns on their shoulder and ready to battle.. They should be taken away the guns and sending their asses home

He has "only" been charged with first degree intentional homicide, which still carries a life sentence if convicted.

Which would be illegal under Wisconsin law, as it is an open carry state. You could argue, however, that they could have ID'ed the kid, and since he was only 17, was not allowed to carry.

He was still the only one of his group who felt compelled to fire off a shot. I think there is a large element of "teenage kid did something incredibly stupid to put himself in a bad situation". You could argue staying home would have boded well for him too.
