They had a private meeting with him in Laramie, WY. Beane, McDermott, Daboll and Terry went on this trip, the only time Terry met him. After his "if it aint white, it's not right." tweet came public on draft eve, they called him discussed it and kept him on their draft board.

That's fairly common with hands-on owners to see top talent. Usually the players come to the teams, but sometimes the teams go to the players.
