A. He wasn’t making them by himself, which is part of my point
B. Krueger is bad. And Adams has 0 experience. What could go wrong? - sbroads24
He cleaned up the D zone and used his larrys to play boring Larry hockey. He wasnt able to make chicken salad out of chicken poop. I understand the pessimism about them actually acquiring the talent they need up front. That remains to be seen.
I've been trying to find this quote that they mentioned on WGR early in the season when the Sabres played the oilers. The reporters from Edmonton asked him how he would be a team, and he said something to the effect of "down the middle." Can't find it.
If they roll into the season with the same garbage, ill be with you, but there's still a long way to go before then.
If he brings back Sobotka ill rage quit this team |

Jo-el. Ar -mia
Is alot better than Joel armia was in Rochester.
Wouldnt mind signing him for pk. Playoff gamer - Boss34
Perhaps we should have used his preferred name pronunciation--Yo-el-- to motivate him |

Hopefully he can also play defense and maybe provide a modicum of offense in addition to the time old hockey platitudes of size, snarl, and grit. - kingcong39
It was a parallel with McNabb. Two very similar players although I think Samuelsson's skating is better |

Not sure what the point of that is? Not being snarky either just wondering. If you’re saying he recognizes that we need centers, that’s not much of a reassurance. You and I know that.
Also, it’s a lazy cliche. You just need really good players no matter what position.
Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty are centered by Chandler Stephenson. Don’t get me wrong he’s decent, but no where near a #1 center.
We obviously need to do better than Mitts. But if Botts and now Adams is holding out a Risto trade for a 2C, they’re dumb. Go get a forward |

Are we sure that Botterill knew he needed centers though?
Last summer I mean. He very well may have believed Mittelstadt, Mojo, Sobotka and Larry was a fine combination. Likewise this offseason I think he probably would have traded for Bjustead and assumed he and Cozens would solve the problem |

He drafted two in the top 10, so yes? Mittelstadt wasn’t as good as how he looked after the WJC. This isn’t the first time a Gm overestimated what his center prospect could do. Darcy did it with Grigorenko. The mistakes Botterill made were never unique. The thing that separated him was failing to make the D for F trade. |

The Biils 20 years of ineptitude slowly wore away at me and dimmed the light rather significantly.
I still root for them, but my fandom is about 25% of what it once was...if it weren't for McBeaner it would be 10% - IonSabres

Which is why I dont think he would have addressed the position in a meaningful way this offseason |

I highly doubt Adams does. Mainly because our best asset is 8th overall and it’s his first pick as GM.
I expect a bargain bin stop gap to Cozens.
Hope I’m wrong |

Not sure how anyone comes to that conclusion.
The owners want to save money, the GM is a numbers guy apparently who won’t want to overpay for things.
I’m hoping something happens, but also looking forward to Brandon Montour being traded for someone worse than Larsson, who walks, Ristolainen playing 22+ minutes a night and us being in 19th place or 25th will depend on whether Hutton is playable or not |

So he addressed the problem for years down the line. What did he do in the interim? Nothing is the answer.
Somebody who is blind could tell the Sabres had a problem at Center halfway through Mittelstadt's first season. His incompetence in addressing that problem is a prime reason he was fired. |

Ion, do you think any of the delays are covid related?
Money and covid related?
If the pagelus believe the Sabres aren't having a "home" game in front of fans for a year or 3, maybe they are being cheap in regards to hiring?
Have to think Kym has paid someone for covid advice with 2 major sports teams playing in NY - Boss34
They should shut the team down if that is true.
They are making every possible error IF they truly want to win and come out of this stronger.
I have been very, very critical of many of their moves, but have not taken shots at the actual firing of 75% of the Hockey Ops Dept...especially Scouting. I have also stated my beef with any of it was giving the keys to the GM position to a guy with no front office experience WHILE also depleting the experience to support him...but also said I'll wait to give him a chance.
The Draft and FA is now 2 months away, and Adam's has been on board for 2-1/2 months.
It is time to add staff to be the best prepared to take advantage of other teams...again, IF their sole purpose for the Sabres existence is to win...Stanley Cups.
In other words, they don't need to hire all the staff back....rather couple of key hires. Outside of Appert (sp?) I haven't seen it. |

Try 50 years of watching the Bill's...literally can count on two hands the number of exciting seasons...3 or 4 Simpson years, 5 years around the 4 Super Bowls...other than that varying degrees of BS to MEH to OK.
49 years with the Sabres...about the same results.
It gets old after awhile. You may see later on in life.
The fun is hanging with other fans of each team. |

If I'm Adams, I'm calling around to get offers on Jack. ..yup, it is true.
This team needs too much help and doesn't have the Assets necessary to get it in reasonable time in relation to Jack's timeframe.
I'd much rather they unload Jack and the losers who make up The Core around him like Risto, Montour, Sam, Mojo...except Dahlin, Joker, maybe Kahun...than keep these losers together and try to compete short-term with TO, Bruins, Lightning, etc.
Yes, sounds radical, and it is...but maybe they could acquire the right futures to seriously compete later.
Could they position themselves for Byfield and another significant piece to draft alongside #8...Byfield, Drysdale and Rossi/Holtz would be a helluva start. Could they get two more studs next season's draft? Engineer a trade or 2 for a couple young wingers.
Point is, there is enough to set themselves up nicely with futures and a couple astute trades. |
