I really like Danault as a target, I just dont like us trading for a pending UFA, so I'd want an extension at time of deal - jimbro83
He produces well enough for a faceoff specialist to make him a very attractive fit, 3rd line I agree is where he'd fit perectly, leaves us with Strome or Chytil as the 2nd line Center |

The problem is he is pissed he is a 3rd line center with the Habs. He wants to be in a top 6 roll. Not sure I want someone who may be pissed if he is put on the 3rd line |

In the interim, he would be the 2C, likely playing with Panarin and Kakko or Kreider and Buch.
Eventually, Laf and Chytil evolve into second line players.
Everyone is happy |

Isles definitely canceled
to me, its ridiculous
it's a sport being played in Canada, in a bubble, with only a handful of Americans |

This is NOT me making a statement for or against.
I will just point out that MANY in Canada feel very strongly about the current situation in the US. It is not just an American issue, it is a human rights and human decency issue.
And, even beyond that the racial struggles parallel far too closely our own history with indigenous Canadians and the lack of any sort of true efforts toward reconciliation. |

see to me Danault would be perfect for that
I wouldnt want to acquire him for the top two lines, I like him as 3rd line center - jimbro83
He said he’s unhappy in his role as a shutdown 3C in MTL and feels he has room to improve offensively. Said if that’s his role again this year it will factor in to his decision on where he plays when UFA comes. So he’s not looking to be a 3C, doesn’t sound like a fit to me, sounds like when Boyle thought he was a middle 6 center but in actuality he was just a very good 4C that could slide up when needed. |

I feel like a lot of people demanding the NHL cancel the games are big phonies though
like the reporters on twitter giving the NHL hell for not canceling last night and still giving them hell for canceling tonight will probably do their part for racial injustice by watching Tiger King on Netflix tonight or something now that there is no hockey to watch |

This exactly.
We are talking about mostly non-American players living in a bubble in Canada locked away from their families. There are 435 US Congressmen, 100 Senators, 50 Governors, and countless city Mayors and Police Chiefs. If they can't drive change it's because they can't or they won't.
The NHL not playing a hockey game in Canada changes nothing for this problem but it does add to the time the teams have to spend locked up away from their families. No reason to punish the teams for something they can't control.
Besides, knowing Americans we'll publicly murder someone else by the end of the week giving another reason to delay even more games. |

I’d be willing to give him a chance, we need a too faceoff Center |

I completely agree with you. I just think that there are a ton of people who should be held accountable and they aren't NHL players/coaches/staff |

Sad to say that I think you are absolutely right, Jim. It's unfortunate.
Also sad that if they were to band together across ALL professional sports leagues, these athletes could show just how much more power they have than all those elected officials.
Sad truth about our society.
Not sure you guys know much about Tim & Sid on Sportsnet up here, but they had an interesting thought yesterday while reporting on all of this...
You want to see things go crazy in Wisconsin? What if the Green Bay Packers boycott their 1st game?? |

Like Tony, trying to keep this objective and free from politics:
The idea behind canceling games is not to make an actual difference, but rather to raise awareness for what is happening in society.
I would say since we are talking about it, canceling games is accomplishing its goal of raising awareness. |

Couldn't agree more.
But, things have gotten so out of whack that these ATHLETES feel they can affect real change. And, I'm sure are struggling with the idea that means they may have a responsibility to do so. "With great power, comes great responsibility." Appropriate that in 2020 we can take such a poignant lesson from a comic book. But, here we are... |

I think you nailed it. "The ATHLETES feel they can affect real change." If that is the case then I certainly respect their decision to do what they think is right. However I'm not in favor of anyone dictating to them what they think they should do or shaming them if they decide otherwise. |

It's getting talked about for sure. However, at some point will the negative backlash threaten to stonewall the overall message? At some point, it seems like the argument is going to be whether or not the athletes should have played or not, and not what the protest was about.

I wasn't going there because it's a hockey blog. It seemed like we had mutually agreed to draw the line at how it impacts the NHL |
