I know that we already have many LHD, but this kid is different. His game has been described as mean and nasty. We could use another crease-clearing defenseman --- think of him as Lindgren 2.0. I would be good with a pick like this...

I don't see it happening but you never know with the Rangers. Relatedly, I think they view Robertson as the eventual replacement for Lindgren. He's not as physical but is a better skater and a good defensive player. In a few years, the left side will be:
Miller, Lindgren, Robertson. Then if Zac Jones develops, they'll move on from Lindgren.

I think the decision with Miller needs to be independent of whether there is an AHL or not. Although you can make the argument that he's still pretty raw after 2 years after NCAA, I still think you have to determine if he's worthy of a roster spot and make your decision on that. If he's one of the best 6 or 7 D on your roster, he needs to be up point blank.

We can't baby these guys forever. I think if you played him 30 minutes a night out of the gate, that's unreasonable. However, I think playing third pairing minutes (say about 15 or so) to me is a much better alternative than playing top line minutes in a league that's traditionally filled with goons and career minor leaguers such as the AHL. Nobody comes in the league as a five year vet, everyone makes rookie mistakes. I'd just rather have him make them here if he's good enough and get burned by them and learn, than if he makes mistakes at the AHL level, but doesn't learn because he's so good his talent overcomes it.

That being said, if he isn't ready, I don't want him playing games here even if the AHL is not playing. I think tons of teams in that case would loan players to Europe, and I'd be on board with sending him there.

Simply put, just put him at the level where he'd naturally be at no matter what.

Youre talking about babying someone who hasnt even set foot on a professional ice hockey game. Im just saying, escalate his game gradually. By the plan I laid out for him (assuming the AHL resumes), he would end up playing in the NHL preseason, play like 40-50 games in the AHL, and about 25 in the NHL. Thats hardly babying, its more or less allowing the kids legs and game develop at a steady pace.

Thats fine, but I dont think Lindgren or Robertson are as good as someone like Brodin. We know Brodin is a top pairing LHD. We dont actually know what we have in these kids, but what we can do is atleast not put the pressure on them to step in to a very important role. We dont have to give up on any of them either because were not trading them, just let them develop at a pace that is comfortable to them.

I just read an article regarding the Yotes financial issues and was wondering... lets say they come to terms to trade us Chychrun, however the stipulation of the deal was to take back Stepans contract as well. Would you guys be down for that?

they already had to give Stepan a 3 million signing bonus on July 1st, he is only owed 2 million more dollars in salary

Theyre problem is they dont have a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick in this years draft. As far as I see it, we can probably get a 2nd round pick for Strome and atleast a 2nd round pick for Georgiev. We could put them on the map in every round they lost in this years draft in a trade for Chychrun.
