Told that the Canucks were the driving force behind ultimate position taken by players not to play...

The next step is cancellation of playoffs. The Lakers for example already voted to do so. The spotlight trend is on full scale now, then what?

i hate to wade into this at all... but i dont think cancellation of playoffs is the right move.

imo the boycott is effective because it was short notice/last minute and its forced an abrupt change of focus from sport to the subject manner. if you cancel everything then sportsnet/nbc/etc will plan ahead and change their programming; fans/viewers will find something else to do and their platform to draw attention to the issue fades.

i am also just extremely disappointed it has come to this. its a failure on politicians and political systems everywhere. representation... where these discussions and debates should happen.. are non existant or unresponsive and athletes and businesses are being forced/pressured into a spotlight they shouldnt have to (because they are the loudest voices people have access to)

Its funny how I brought that up first but was ridiculed by "Mr. Anti-Dogmatic" who then decided to be dogmatic on this thread. Maybe he thought it seemed popular to do so given that it now became a trend? Who knows, maybe its fun to point fingers without taking accountability for their own actions. Spotlights can work both ways. Likely whatever platform is used now to wield pressure will find the latest scapegoat while no real change is made.

Petey's childhood friends were deported. I gather he has strong feelings about human rights.

I'm disappointing to not be watching the game tonight, but I'm proud of the league for lending their voice in solidarity. I agree that it is not going to answer anything by itself, but Kaepernick's pebble has grown a rockslide. It speaks to what matters most.

The Whitehouse's response to NBA (Mike Pense) was it's absurd . Like I said earlier I am all for the cause but they are bringing a hockey stick to a gun fight. I think if you are going to protest do it properly where they know you are pissed.

CNN's Tapper just reported the NBA games will resume on the weekend. Not sure if this solid and that means NHL too.

Anyway, you're right spotlights fade if there isn't a follow up or continued use of platform. Discrimination comes in all shades maybe everyone should be aware of their own actions.

has anything official official been announced yet?

im curious if gameday is now tomorrow or if the canucks get 2 extra days off. not to be insensitive of the situation but any additional time off benefits canucks to rest and heal

On the hockey side of things, while big issues are being talked about, the time off, assuming rescheduling, benefits the Canucks. They get more time to heal from hard fought series. Miller's hand and Myers could be ready for example. Plus the lingering loss still weighs longer in the heads of VGK helping Canuck mental game.

It has gotten a group of (largely) old, (largely) white dudes on a message board speaking (mostly) civilly about it, so that’s a start.

They said they're cancelling 1 game for each of the 8 teams, so presumably the Canucks could play tomorrow instead of the teams scheduled to do so, but seems to me they might just do 4 games on Saturday.

Yeah, for anyone saying "how does this change anything?", well, it's got you (and hopefully) your family talking about it at the very least.

For a day or two, then back to normal like nothing happened. Postponing professional sports for 48 hours isn't going to change a thing. Voting a racist out of office would be a good start.

You are making it race based, and inflaming.....The fire is there. I won't deny systemic racism exists. But........HOCKEY.

Brass tacks...........(getting ready for the ban). Your list is flawed, and BLM knows it.

This last gentleman. Made threats, had a knife, got tazed, still kept going.
Asking nicely didn't work, and everything but the kitchen sink before they shot him (7 times and NOT kill him)

Big Kahuna Mr Floyd. Did you watch the video? all 18 minutes? They tried to detain him safely. They handled it HORRIBLY.
But do you honestly think that those cops are gonna serve ANY time?

Then what.....MEGA RIOTS.

There are bad apples everywhere, but to throw out everyone not in Group Think. Seems short sighted. Like passing speech codes and such. Giving the government more control. And you less.

You're right everyone is entitled to their opinion. You're opinion is poopty and bigoted, people were right to have pointed it out and if you voice an opinion you should know that you can and will be held accountable.

some white 16 year old walks down the middle of the city with an assault rifle and kills protestors and isn't shot or apprehended until well after it happen. They didn't try to detain Jabob Blake, they had so much oppertunity to use literally ANY form of physical restraint/violence rather than shoot him 7 times in front of his children. Oh, and when "you play" devil's advocate with subjects such as racism or homophobia it's actually just a soft cover for bigoted valus which you are defending/espousing. If you don't like to be associated with that, THEN STOP ESPOUSING THOSE VALUES FOR ANY REASON. Those that live it don't get to "play". .

i saw last night that they are ahead of the overall league playoff schedule by a few days so i think they would probably have no games for 2 days before resuming but i didnt see if anything had been announced
