lol I see Edler cross checked Reilly for the late penalty call but really it was a dive by Reilly. Would love to see Reilly get corked!! |

Vegas are playing like they have been around the block a few times. Going down easy , holding the stick, but if the refs are buying it why not keep doing it?

1. Eriksson signed a contract.
2. Eriksson is a professional hockey player, the same for Sven Baertschi and Sam Gagner and he will live up to his commitment of the agreement.
3. I think you are discounting the remaining money of his contract because he has earned a great deal previously.
4. At 35 and a salary of 4mil in 2020-21 and 4 mil in 21-21 would be absolutely idiotic to walk away from.
5. He is not a quitter as he stated in an article with Kuzma.
There is no problem with player speculation but all these posts adamantly pushing MTA is a bit much.
His contract sucks and unless Benning packages a player with Eriksson he will remain a Canuck or Comet....IMO. - Nuckerwhatever

All of this.
It's fun to speculate and try to imagine ways to get out from under the contract, but he has stated implicitly that he has no intention of quitting, especially with money left on the table.
The only way I see him not being on the books is a trade with salary retained. And that's a long-shot.

Bo referenced them laughing in first game and how they shut them up by winning ... that tool was among the loudest laughing on the bench and in post game interviews. So nice to see him but hurt and lose it on SM.
I like this Canucks team they don't yap like cocky tools but bring it from Petey on down.
Next game will be another hard battle with VGK coming in waves. The Blues and Wild wars have given the Canucks a taste of the physicality needed.
But I like our chances better now that we're winning the mental game against the VGK. - NuckUp

Quiting is retiring. So as you say he wants to keep playing then he'll take the MTA to look for an NHL role. Why would he ride buses in the AHL to end his career?

I don't know how else to say it.
He wants to play, he won't quit or take a MTA.
So if he gets pushed out, he'll go to Utica and play there (like Gagner/Sven did) and hope that he works his way back to Vancouver, gets traded or else plays his career out there.

You don't get how the contract was designed there is only $5M left on the $36M deal for last 2 seasons. It had retirement or MTA as likely scenarios to end it.
Its not quitting to tear up your contract to get another role somewhere else. Plus, JB has moral high ground here having given so much for so little in return. Canucks have less need for LE but more need to remove the $6M cap hit. So why would LE stay where he's not needed?
JB tried to trade LE all season with no takers and that was pre-flat cap. JB is not going to cripple the team he's assembled with a ransom trade to avoid waiving LE.

Yes he wants to play but in the NHL. So tearing up the obstacle to that to find a role elsewhere would go along with what you said.
Sven and Gagner did have some hope because those moves were not cap related. Waiving LE to get an MTA is mostly about cap and less about fitting in on this roster. |

You know what. You’re right. It’s totally reasonable to walk away from 5 million dollars to avoid riding busses for a couple of years. And I’m sure that LE is totally confident that he will get signed by another team (with a clause stipulating that he can’t be sent down of course - we know how much LE hates riding busses). That contract is as good as gone.

If he was in the middle or back half of his career or that represented a significant portion of what he's made sure riding buses have been done by other NHL players looking to recoup career or money. But the LE scenario the way the flat cap has unfolded is different. He's had the high life and is at the end so he won't waste it stuck in the minors. |
