Uncle Tom's? Nice work there Tanner. Great example to follow.

As I just wrote on Ek's piece. The NHL should take a stand and declare that we're playing a game and we hope our fans can enjoy it. Then maybe someone with some guts (Lebron?) can use their influence to provide a balanced view.

Racism is bad. Injustice is bad. But most cops are good. Most teachers are good. Same with daycare workers and nurses and taxi drivers. But all of these professions have a few bad apples. So let's work with police departments to identify those bad apples and punish them. In the meantime, I have a very, very important message to all fans of all colours. Don't break the law. That's usually a good way to avoid being shot. And if cop does give you an instruction, I have an idea...umm, obey them. Smile. Obey. Don't argue. Don't fight. Don't run. And nobody gets hurt. If you are innocent, justice will prevail in the courts. If you are guilty, well, like I said, don't break the law.

Not one single celebrity or athlete has said anything remotely close to this. Cops generally don't randomly shoot people. Stop arguing and fighting and you won't get shot.

And this is exactly why politics should have been kept out of this space. There are other spaces online for that if that's your cup of tea. Instead, you rant and rave about the need to do something and show acceptance while completely disregarding the opinions of the other side.

The fact that you proclaim yourself as a white guy makes you a target for BLM as you now owe them reparations. This is part of the narrative you completely ignore. Doesn't matter if your Canadian and never owned a slave in your life. Just go look for the videos of them berating people who refuse to bow to the BLM power trip.

You're right, it shouldn't be a political thing to be a decent person. While no one agrees that police should be murdering black people, some people rush to judgement and demand social action before knowing all of the facts. That has happened and is continuing to happen daily because they can draw power from it.

Exactly. He's apparently a media expert, who apparently watches a wide spectrum of news. He uses the phrase Uncle Tom. When he gets called out on the obvious hypocrisy...he claims he didn't know what it means and wants a pat on the back for learning something new. Really. So why did you use the phrase in the first place if you had no idea what it means? Typical.

What are the other kinds of liberal?
- ddMoose

The kind that want to effect meaningful change to make the country a better place.

There are also the type of liberals like Franklin D. Roosevelt who saved us from the Great Depression and guided us thru World War II.

Of course really the greatest liberals of all were our founding fathers because they were all revolutionarily liberal which is why they strode to create a more perfect Union.

There are a lot of different kind of liberals which is why you could choose to educating yourself about that and not have to ask in a hockey forum.

Your media teaching background - hold no water with me.

I won't comment beyond this post - You make some great points, I'm sure
you're a good person (most of us are) but the deep state "stuff" is real man.

Main stream Media has been bullpoopting the world since the inception of the tv.
Most politicians today are scumbags - party lines are meaningless these days.

It's not Trump - it's ridding society of the deep state globalists that counts here.
You can believe it or not - like you say "somebody has to right / somebody wrong

You're wrong here - the world will be a much better place with deep state extinction

Ethics is a huge part of the world going forward - we all need to be the best version
of ourselves.

He didn't say he hadn't heard it, just that he was unaware that it is specific for black people to use it in regards to other blacks they perceive as sellouts
- PuckMe

He knew what it meant and if he didn't you better not criticize people of being racist and then act like one!

Separate issue but what is the real deal with the NHL players opinion pieces that seem to be written by ghost writers? I mean I don't know if that's what is going on or not exactly. It does makes me wonder how legit these opinions are and it makes me also be concerned about the NHL trying to act in a more political manner because it seems pretty disingenuous. And I don't mean that in a bad way, just it's sort of trying to look like they care when they probably don't.

If you read those "articles" carefully you will notice they are all written by the same guy because they have the exact style/cadence and wording regardless of player.

Are you really going to compare classical liberalism to the progressive liberal of today? You are really going to defend The New Deal and the effects we are still suffering from today?

Help yourself.

I thought they are well written but it does not seem as legit when you know the players didn't actually write whatever is being said. Not saying its a lie. Just it feels more like propaganda then honest opinions.

All wrong about Q/anon Tanner - dem & rep party line is all crap to me.

Deep state is real (All over the world)

The lies you are believing are coming from the mainstream media (Fox too)
yes - I know - fake news (that's the truth - most news IS fake news)

The deep state is the elitists/ Globalists that don't give a poop about any of us
anywhere in the world.

Black lives absolutely matter , but The Black Lives Matter movement is a complete
bullpoop org. - just like Antifa. Wake up tanner!

- paulozz

Elitist have been treating people like crap since the beginning of time, from Roman patricians to the Jeff Bezo's of this era , it's nothing new, the rich try to exploit the poor and the poor try to steal from the rich through government government subsidies and unions.

Q anon is just your way of trying to understand why your life sucks.

Logan Couture , about a month ago, wrote about racism in hockey and being a part of the solution to a toxic culture. If you can't see how those words become empty by supporting Trump then I honestly don't know what to tell you. Just think about it at least.

They're well written, but obviously ghost written. I don't doubt they have a conversation and the writer does their best to give off their opinions (as given). I just think it's too coincidental that people of so many diverse backgrounds and ages all happen to "write" in the exact style and turn of phrase.

Why should athletes be our guide on social justice - their contribution to the world is being physically fit and good at sports. Not sure one has anything to do with the other - hockey bloggers even more so.

Mr. Tanner, I absolutely, vehemently disagree with everything you ever blog about, including your hatred for my Islanders. That being said, I do admire your courage to write something you feel so passionate about. As a die hard patriot of my country and avid Trump supporter, I believe more people need to come out and speak up ON BOTH SIDES no matter what views they have. I hope its not your last post, although as mentioned, I disagree with every blessed thing you say, I do like to get views from the opposite side from time to time, and thats a start.

I know exactly what it means. I used the phrase to indicate the hypocrisy of bring out a black person to support your racist agenda, which Trump is actually pretty blatant about it. Like, he talks about it as if its such an obviously good strategy only a fool would fail to employ it.

What I didn't know was that its a phrase that has become controversial. I read an article that said its not for me to call someone a race traitor. That makes sense to me. I mentioned it because if I didn't know that, other people don't know it. I didn't do it for a pat on the back or for any other reason.

I did not know that, actually. I googled it and learned that it is not for me to decide who is "race traitor" so I will delete the phrase. I am happy to learn something new.

Athletes should not be your guide to social justice, and no one is saying they should be. An athlete has a unique platform in which to amplify their beliefs. Sometimes its one guy, sometimes, apparently, its the entire league. Whatever they say, you are then free to take it as you want.

The purpose of any protest is to raise awareness so that more people can come to your side. Historically, once enough people are on your side, you get what you want.

Instances of police killing unarmed black people are so frequent as to indicate a larger problem, which either we address it or we don't. It seems to me that basketball is one of the only avenues in north america where people can go from nothing to being filthy rich and is made up of a majority of black men. I can't really think of a more appropriate group of people to speak on this topic than the guy in the NBA.

Seriously , you shouldn't have a blog anywhere that has to do with hockey. You know very little about the sport and that has been shown numerous time. But your political rantings are even worse. 85% of the media is made up of liberal hacks. It is actually the opposite of what you say. I noticed how all of the NBA was up in arms when a black player called a white player female dog - A-- WHITE BOY. That of course was deemed to be non racial and just part of the game. How about the outrage when the hollywoodcrew made fun of the accent of the presidents wife." She still can't speak english ".Heard a lot from the media on the INSENSITIVITY . Imagine a white player said black boy, or a non liberal made fun of an accent. There would have been calls for firings for sure. Front page stuff. Fact checking NY Times "the Seattle Chop area was like a block party with kids drawing pictures in the street." this was actually written. Or liberal jerk John Oliver talking about how the list of crimes reported on Fox were mostly graffiti offenses in Portland. There are no riots just peaceful protests. How many times have we heard how the looting and destruction were all a small part of the Peaceful calls for Racial justice. Liberal star politicians like AOC ACTUALLY SAYING that looting Gucci and other high end stores is because they[ the looters] don't have bread to eat.

Its criminal now to support your law enforcement officers. Your a racist if you do. talk about dumb. Funny that a lot of the stars and politicians calling to defund the police do not live in areas where the crime rate is soaring. NY politician who will be running for major J. Williams is always calling for police to have less power . They shouldn't be able to question people, can't do this or that. But the area where he lives is gated and protected by the ARMY. THE GUY LIVES on the Fort Hamilton army base. Nobody can get near his house without showing ID and being vetted. And he is telling people they don't need police. Minny city council calls for defunding the police then has tax payer money used for private security to protect them. WHO IS LYING ? ANYONE that doesn't listen to you is racist and dumb. Go away .
