So how many years should a player play in Junior hockey?

If Patrick and Hischeir had remained in junior hockey longer, their stock would have dropped as players? So as they got physically more mature and playing against younger players, they would've gotten worse as players?

- MJL

You can’t be serious? Go back and look at the first 6 picks of Patrick’s draft. They are 20 now. Try to imagine that’s this years draft. Where do Patrick and nico go? Absolutely not a chance in hell above 4 or later. They did mature. As did miro glass Elias makar. No way you can say if we’re looking at draft now even without Patrick’s fake migraines anybody would draft him above those 4. And if they try to make a case they’d just be poop stirrers

OK, but some people were talking like getting rid of him is the key to curing all their ails. That's what I was responding to. I'm not giving Giroux a pass, I just believe that he's still part of the solution.

(and he kinda has to be b/c NMC)

- Tomahawk

That's a different tune. Giroux deserves heavy criticism. Players with NMC are moved.

No offense but no one said they can’t. I said they shouldn’t. So no I’m not wrong. Unless generational no reason to be in nhl that young almost everyone of them aren’t physically or mentally mature for the league to excel. Coots is prime example. Yes he played right away. Many say his development probably would’ve been excelled by playing in jrs more. Just because they can play doesn’t mean they should. Raise the draft age and that mostly taken care of.

No reason to change the draft age.

Oh and also many a players careers never panned out from being brought up too early and too young. But yeah I’m wrong.

Many players turned out just fine entering the NHL or the AHL at 19.

You're really not thinking very clearly. I'll spell it out for you. Patrick and Nischier wee neck and neck in their draft year for the top overall pick. Playing another year in juniors as overagers would not have changed that. They just would've gotten better and played against players even younger relative to their age.

Stating that Patrick's migraine's are fake. Well that just makes you look like a fool.

Except the fact that only around how many % in first 2 rounds of draft pan out and are pick in their somewhat correct spot? Exactly

You can always do those re-drafts by weeding out the players who underperformed relative to expectations. Thing is, Nico/Patrick were the consensus 1-2 picks. You can't use the knowledge of now to re-draft back then. You have to use the knowledge you had back then. And neither player was a reach with that knowledge. The draft would go the way it did, and if Canucks for example had the 1 or 2 pick, they would have chosen Nico/Patrick.

Flyers should look to move up in this draft. Quite a few nice looking wingers and a number of teams with multiple 1st’s that may be willing to deal.

It would depend on the cost but I don't think I'd be looking to trade up for a winger.

You also said no team can offer him 8 years. That’s false is it not ?

The Flyers can but the context of stating no team was for a team other than the Flyers offering Couturier 8 years as a UFA.

I'd throw in Lindblom and Patrick also. They'll never play again.
- MJL

So Prov, Coots, Kone, NoPa and Lindblom to EDM for McDavid, Drai and 1st

Many? Roughly 250 players selected each year how many play in nhl not ahl nhl before the age of 20? And not for something stupid like 5 games. Full on made nhl roster 82+ game season. Maybe 25? Maybe 50 at absolute best? So 10 maybe 20 % at the most? I wonder why that is? Maybe because they’re 150 pounds soaking wet at draft and still have much much developing to do? Raise the age and you at least see mostly where they’re gonna project. Biggest crap shoot is nhl draft.

FYI Anyone who thinks any big contract is being moved, 13 teams are carrying Salary cap Overages into next season according to TSN. I doubt teams are going to be looking to acquire large contracts with no cap increase

LOL, if you want to say that I was wrong when you were stating that another team could offer him 8 years and I replied that no team can, than that's fine. Technically it's wrong but you know what I was saying.

Again for the simple.... nico and Patrick playing another year or 2 in jrs yes they’d have developed more. Absolutely. Just like makar miro Elias HAVE ALSO DEVELOPED MORE OBER LAST 2 YEARS. You seemed to leave that out. So if they all stayed in jrs and draft was held this year after seeing miro makar Elias possibly glass Suzuki and probably more your saying if draft was held tomorrow you’d still take nico and Nolan 1-2? Your nuts

Obviously a player has to be physically ready to play in the NHL. What you're not getting is that changing the draft age doesn't change much. There is no reason to do it. End of story.

Changing the draft age doesn’t change that? Your nuts. 2 extra years to see players development and chance to gauge them. Yeah surely it’s as easy to predict a player at 17-18 compared to 20. Said nobody but mjl ever.

No, I didn't leave anything out. You don't seem to grasp the idea that the information you have 3-4-5 years down the road is not available at draft time. You're just embarrassing yourself.
