Why are guys hyping getting Johnny Hockey? I mean, doesn't this team already have enough guys that look great in the regular season only to do the old vanishing act come playoff time. - Phillywhiteout
Ok who is available we should make a move for then? Another year pretending Our current core is good enough isn’t going to change anything. |

I do understand the validity of the criticism and what you are saying, but the game of Hagg and Braun is not based on quick exits from their own zone. Its preventing players from getting into high danger scoring areas, keeping them outside and then getting the puck out probably later than average. I don't know what the stats are for that but my guess is it would be better than the Myers-Sanheim pairing.
I was terribly disappointed though that Lee gets a shot off on that pp though with Braun all over him in the paint. - PT21
That's the issue. Having a defense pair that can only defend, is losing hockey. That's why Gostisbehere should be playing. He's a playmaker and they need to make some plays. Yea, if he gets isolated against Lee at the net, he'll get beat. So has every other defenseman on the team. So instead of that, lets play more in the Isles end of the ice. Let's try that.

I would be surprised and disappointed if Ghost does not play today. Plan A clearly has not worked. We have to gamble. - PT21
Yes, I would think Ghost will play. I think they should be more willing to break up their main defensive pairings of choice. That last game with Montreal was a good example.

You probably have a better hockey IQ than me, so I will not debate the eye test. Plus, its subjective.
What advanced stats do you mean? Don't point out raw stats. Point out relative to rest of team, and relative to Braun-Ghost in this series. - PT21
Relative stats are poor stats. Lets take different players, with different linemates, playing against different players of the opposition, with different deployment and usage and compare them.

I agree. Nothing to lose at this point. And lord knows the forwards need all the offensive help they can get. |

Fine, but how do you explain Couturier being so bad? - jmatchett383
Just case of having a bad series is all imo. It happens and sometimes nothing more to it Han that |

The Islanders doing coke between periods? After the 1st we looked gassed every game. They play so much faster and harder than our boys it’s extremely disappointing. Our whole top line injured? They’re just laboring out there. They looked so damned slow. TK’s definitely injured. He’s a full step slower and he didn’t go into a time machine during the pause. |

The Gm is in a tough spot. The 3 core guys are not good enough as a unit. Giroux isn’t going anywhere unless he asks to move and imo he won’t and is way to comfortable here. Him and Sean have 2 years left and no impact fwd on the Horizon. Good potential depth no stars.
So what does the gm do? |

And trading for the wrong guy just to shake up the core isn’t the answer |

Have you checked how sharply that dude's playoff stats drop off relative to his reg season stats? - PT21
I have not. I’m guessing it’s bad.

To me you keep Coots. At this point I’m really indifferent as to if they keep or move G and Jake. They’ve tried changing everything around them numerous times. I mean how many more coaches/gms/linemates are we willing to go through to convince ourselves that this core can win?
I’m not saying they have to move these guys but they absolutely need to add a substantial 1st line forward to make this work in my eyes. |

Say one of them has to go...which one do you prefer? G or Jake? |

Tough call but probably Jake because he’s under contract longer. |

If the goal is to remain competitive, yes I agree. If you were to trade either, it's for picks and prospects.
I can't think of any players teams would give up that would help the Flyers to currently remain a competitive team. |

So....Hockey diversity Alliance posted a few demands....Boy do I not like evander Kane.
First, let me point out that I’m black and even I believe this is ridiculous. I want equal Equality in hockey but it sounds like they’re unaware if black people even want to work for the nhl. Not a lot of black men enjoy the sport. I do but many of my black pears do not. How the hell do you get 12% of executive blacks in office, if you aren’t even sure if this certain group want the jobs? You have to have passion and knowledge for the job. It should be about growth and helping all minorities. This sound like the creating of a future strike. |

Do that and maybe end up like the leafs? Or Edmonton? There is no right way to do it. I don’t think the flyers are in a bad spot, had the season not gone the way it has and finished normally I think we would be doing quite well. - ClaudeFather
Or maybe like the Hawks of the past decade or the Pens since Crosby? And the Kings? Where was Doughty drafted and what role did he play in the two LA cup runs? Where was Brayden Schenn drafted that got them Mike Richards back? Where was Jack Johnson drafted that got them Jeff Carter in return?
No 100% right way to do it, but the odds favor teams that suck badly for long rather than stay semi-competitive for long. Recent history would suggest its easier to provide complementary pieces around stars for winning the cup rather than build "deep teams" where there are lots of capable goal scorers but no dominant ones.

Boychuck was on the 3rd Pair and can play if ready to go but Green has stepped in nicely and Boychuck has been a healthy scratch ever since.
Good luck tonight boys, should be a good one. |

My thing with couturier is they will be paying for past performance. He has tremendous value imo and can get a haul. Signing him for 8 years at age 29 will hurt this team down the line as he has heavy miles. I know it’s blasphemy to talk about trading him though it’s the best option. Unless the gm goes ball to the wall moves frost picks and others to go for it in the next 2 years
Giroux won’t be moved unless he wants to as I think we can all agree on that
I dump jake for what you can. It would just be silly to return all 3
Jvr ghost yes they can probably be moved but they are not the big issue. |

That's not true. Both Farabee and Frost have the potential to be impact forwards. They're also missing Lindblom and Patrick from the lineup.

The Flyers have never been a "tank" team and if they did that, I would cease to support them.
