I think it's a distinct possibility as well. The hub system in several cities across Canada could work in theory, but it would be costly.

Something like the current 4 negative tests in 4 days, head into a hub, play 8 or 9 games across 2 weeks, head home. Cycle groups of 4-6 teams in and out. Probably have to do something on the order of a 40/50 game season, but I could see it working.

The enormous cost of staff running the hubs coupled with no ticket revenue is obviously a big hurdle, but maybe you could start allowing people in at a much lower capacity?

Imo it's all dependent on how fall goes in terms of a 2nd wave, etc.

That's dependent on us. IF everyone is determined to keep the virus at bay then there's no reason we can't beat it. Social distance, wear a mask in public or at work and wash your hands.

It's amazing how those 3 small things can impact us moving forward.

Wondering what the payout odds are in Vegas if we did?

Looks like my MGM ticket on the Nucks to win the cup is done tonight...

2 hub cities in Canada & no positive cases. Say no more.

Maybe they'll compress the schedule with little travel and give time off for family? Just an idea. I still think they should shorten the season substantially.
- golfingsince

I think a shortened season is a good idea.

Meh, way different with 82 games to play. Some played 5 or less.

Clearly you didn't read my post. You can schedule in a way that there are games on TV most nights, yet players only need to be away from home for ~2 weeks every 2 months. In a shortened season you could total that up to roughly 2.5/3 months away in total spread across the season, which is probably less than they would normally be away for.
- NorthNuck

That would mean exempting US teams from the 14 day quarantine when arriving in Canada. As a Canadian, I'm dead set against that.

I didn't read your post because you contribute nothing to this thread.

It's been a weird experience where I live. We had 5 cases, the last one recovered in May. Back at the office with some basic restrictions, wear a mask in public areas, sanitize hands on entry, etc.

I'm wondering what will happen when we get more cases up here this fall/winter as things have been pretty lax since June/July.

Not sure how that is relevant.
The NHL hub cities are totally artificial and not relatable for the wider populations.

They exempted them for the playoffs already though. Could see the gov doing that again especially considered how well the NHL has pulled this off.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for continuing heavy border restrictions. That's how the NWT is Covid-free right now.

A new question...

2020/21 is a go. Players again can opt in or out but it’s 100% & cannot opt in after opting out but can still opt out later(Rask).

So how do we like our team & chances?

I would love it.

How will anyone respect your posts if you don't even know who the best team in the league is?

to be fair you also thought the finishing the season was a bad idea too.
It's worked well.
But i take your point about travel/borders.

Relevant? Simply put it can be done.

What does wider population matter? So much can change between now & then.

lol that's actually a good point. I did have a Tampa/EDM final in my pool but that didn't work out for the Oil. Might be 50% correct

Maybe I should have went Tampa/Van?

I thought golfer was talking about things people can do to limit the transmission of the virus in the public and how this will impact on the NHL season next year...and you referred to the NHL bubbles having no cases, which is a weird comparison imo.

If people are diligent there's little reason to fear a large increase in cases. We've been wide open here all summer and aside from a dishonest doctor the only cases we've had are related to foreign workers and travel.

We're not a large city by any means but we're still the hub of the Atlantic.

Do I want to wear a mask? Not really. Do I? Mostly. I guess you could have some fun with the mask.

The upshot is that the regular flu numbers are down in countries currently going through flu season. That in itself is reason enough to wear one.

At the beginning of the Lockdown Bettman said players opting out this playoff series would have no action taken against them. He said next year is a different story. I don't think TB are going to want to pay Stamkos to not want to play or Boston with Rask.

Canada also refused to allow the Blue Jays access to have other baseball teams fly to Canada . I don't think they will allow the NHL.

Border restrictions might become more lax, cold weather brings higher infection rates and lowered immune systems. We could stay clean but it seems highly unlikely especially as many are traveling outside the NWT to visit family elsewhere in Canada right now and we can't be sure everyone will follow the 2 week rule when they come home.

All I care about is the PO’s are going & no test positives. Negativity wasn’t a factor without basis to support it. So little confidence was placed in the NHL NHLPA & govt authorities.

Now onto supreme stupidity being the NFL...

Schools are the big issue.

If it gets in the system then even with measures in place young kids will bring it home.
