IF you eat salary and a bit of cap it will cost much less. - golfingsince
There won’t be much salary to eat after his bonus is paid. Honestly, I don’t have a clue at the best of times and this off-season is definitely not going to be the best of times. Who knows what is going to happen. |

So? You trade LE and retain either one or two million. You take somebody back making less but earning far more in actual dollars or even more if they're the right player. No need to re-sign TT if that's the case.
Maybe it's bigger and you're eating more money and a guy like Myers is included. Maybe it's on a goalie and you don't re-sign Marky? Maybe it's a combination of the above.

Rafferty is RD. Trading away 2 LD that can slot in behind QH when Edler retires/UFA's is a high cost. - NuckUp
My bad on Rafferty, thought he was left. But I also said only trading one of the three. |

Exactly.
Some high contracts are going to be shipped IMO. Imagine being an owner and seeing somebody has $3M on his deal vs $15M for a player they're paying. Believe it or not it's a factor in trades, especially with reduced revenue.
I'm beginning to think the new TV deal(s) could be monstrous however, meaning a really big cap in a few years. |

It depends on JB's plans on signing Tree and Stecher for what to do with Rafferty.
On LD you'd think both OJ and Rathbone are valued for slot 2 and 3. Puck moving D in these playoffs Heiskenan, Theodore, Makar are very valued. So having 2 more guys, a cut below QH, on ELC's/low contracts in flat cap era should be keepers. |

If you can move lackluster lui you have to do it. They can afford to ride out Beagle, Sutter Myers etc as those guys actually provide “some” positives.
How much would you be willing to give up?
Seems the standard rate is a first round pick... - 1970vintage
I heard a few weeks back the asking price was Rafferty or Gaudette but there is so many false things out there.
I think if it did cost Rafferty and a second ( my guess) I don't see a problem seeing we don't have any clue about the 2021 draft class. If there was ever a year to move picks 2021 would be my choice.

They compete for a spot behind Edler. The other is maybe D 7. You don't just move vets that eat 20+ minutes in a top 4 role with one year left on their deal....You might want that guy playing 14-18 minutes for much less the year after. He might wanna stick around for a shot at the cup with the only team he's ever played for. |

A lot of moving parts there plus finding a willing partner. JB tried to do that already. If the goal is cap relief, then why not do the simple thing you can control. Force an out by waiving. |

There's no moving parts at all actually except for LE and his return. You gage the market and make an appropriate trade.
Go ahead and waive him, he's still going to cost you so you might as well eat a bit of money instead.
I highly doubt he walks away from the money he's scheduled to earn thinking he'll get more on the market......even though he's only due chump change. |

I have a feeling Roussel might be on the move and Lind brought in along with Zack.
Roussel Tryamkin and Sven (50 %) to Montreal for St Louis second |

As said in a previous post these are young guys to replace Edler's spot when he moves on. But both could be on the roster rotating in with Edler extended.
The point is Rathbone and OJ both have a higher value skill set now and into the future then cap dump sweetners. |

If he wants to play in the NHL he will have to take less.

The HABS think they are closer now too so there will be some dealing for sure.
Though as you said before these draft picks lose value scouting wise post Covid.
So should Canucks stick to known prospects/players as better value and for depth to their club? |

If you’re going to eat salary why not just ride it out? I would “pay” anything if I was retaining 50%. |

I would like to hear from DCT or someone who has been following the scouting closer . I haven't followed scouting at all but with us having a few more good prospects I would be willing to trade picks for now seeing I have no idea how next year will turn out.

They have Rathbone, Juolevi, and Rafferty all looking to crack the LHD bottom pairing. Can use one of those to either help ship out Loui, or package with Jake to get a good RHD.
I don't think it would take a 1st to move out Loui – there's a potential some might view his cap vs actual dollar as helpful with the Covid economy. Not enough to jump view him favourably, just more so. - NewYorkNuck
Recent history suggests a first round pick (or player who was a first round pick) is “the cost”.
Maybe not, but that’s my guess |
