I know your owner is cheap as (frank), I think money plays a huge role for the Canes as it will for a lot of teams.

Goaltending has been their soft spot for a while now...The prize for every team is Lehner. I think a lot of owners open their wallets for him and subtract somewhere else...after that? I think a lot of budget teams will want Freddy bad.

There is a strong fit there short and long term. You get Freddy as a legit starter and Kerfoot as your versatile forward who can move to C or W when needed.

Then there will be the option to add to the forward group using a D or going to FA and your owner maybe willing to open his wallet a bit with only halving to pay Freddy 1M and Kerfoot 2.5M.

Dundon is cheap on front office staff, not on players.

he's very different than the kind of cheap we used to experience under Karmanos.

The other side is what do we do with Reimer or Mrazek as they're under contract too, not to mention Nedeljkovic beng on a one way deal as well.

I can't see getting anything good. There's so many decent goalies that will be free agents this year. IMO getting Andersen in a trade would be a backup plan on most teams if they don't get who they want in free agency.

Tell that to the owners who are losing money by the minute.

Let’s see how your cheap owner is on his players during a pandemic? Surely it’ll be different than under normal circumstances.

And again this is one move.

Look at the Allen trade. Teams will pay a small fee for a Reimer or Mrazek.

Running with Campbell as the starter basically guarantees Dubas is gone if it doesn't work in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind Holtby as a reclamation project with Campbell as the backup. But I think someone will give Holtby money based on the goalie he used to be a few years ago.

We need a Korpisalo, Demko, Georgiev, kinda a guy. Sign for 5M for few yrs

Depends. He might tighten things up as he was expected to make about $1 billion by taking TopGolf public, but the pandemic put a hold on that one.

will be big shoes to fill. i rather keep him, despite the lack of playoff success so far.

but much like keefe waiting in the wings, seems like campbell is dubas' guy. better to move freddy before the season starts.

10-14 in the playoffs means those shoes may not be as big as you think.

I think the Avalanche would be interested and a deal and flip to get Kuemper like this https://youtu.be/uKJV5oVzU2I would be something the Leafs would be going for .

It's done.. Laine for Chad Kilger and Oleg Tverdosky...

The Selanie trade that broke the Jet fans heart better not be repeated with Laine.

winning record in the playoffs before he got here and winning record overall in the playoffs.

The 1st 2 years we made the playoffs we were over-matched. A losing record makes sense from then.

The last 2, not so much. Should have won both series we played. You can make an fair argument that freddy was the issue. i just think other players were a bigger problem.

Wow that would be quite the trade considering those players are both on different teams.

Does the goalie make the team.. or the team make the goalie.. In Ana. he had a really good team in front of him...

Look @ JG a top 5 goalie ... and even he can't rescue the Ducks now with that team in front of him...

Exactly. Same could be said for your boys acquiring Allen. But I agree 100%
- bikeguy99

Because you obviously haven't looked at the fact that Montreal giving St. Louis the cap space they need to sign Pietrangelo, keeping him there instead of signing elsewhere, when Montreal has like what, 12 picks? A single 3rd rounder won't kill them.

Mrazek, Pesce and the #13 pick for Andersen and Johnsson?

Not likely the Jets are trading Laine unless its for a big, young #1 center or a young, physical top pairing d-man. He'll be a Jet for the next few years.
- islansjet

I think there's a good chance that Laine gets traded in the next year or so and I also think you'll be, at best, whelmed, with the return he gets.

He'll get you a good return but not the moon you expect.

What is weird is Montreal having $15M in cap committed to 2 goalies

STL gets a 3rd for a former starter that they kept over Elliott.
Yeah, Anderson gets you more clicks.
No, he not worth a 1st.

- Traveldude

Andersen >>>> Allen

Allen is a backup making $4.35M. I guarantee you they're happy they got the 3rd for him and don't have him on the books anymore.

For sure. And it still got them a 3rd.

So factor that in, add that Freddy is a (frank)ton better than Allen is, and the cherry on top being he makes only $1M actual $$$ should equal a much better return in trade.

So why the hell did Montreal make this trade?
