The rumour I read is that the Leafs wanted Murray, but backed off after they found out what he wanted in Arbitration.

The current rumours that the Leafs are still pursuing Murray would make no sense if the above is true though.

Not a Leafs fan here but wanted to throw out an idea. Lots of talk about Arizona wanting to shed salary being willing to listen on Kuemper and shop high priced D, and get back some picks taken away as punishment from league.

Could there be a large trade match with Leafs? With Andersen having 80% of salary paid the Coyotes would save $3 5 mill and the Leafs would obtain .5 in cap room. Add Johnsson to the trade and they could afford a RHD like Demers or Hjalmarsson. Maybe something like....

Frederick Andersen, 15th overall pick, Andreas Johnsson and Leafs prospect in top 3-5 range to ARI

Darcy Kuemper and Nicklas Hjalmarsson (or Jason Demers) to TOR

Money in cap hit would work out perfectly for Demers. Hjalmarsson would add a mill going Toronto's way. Depending on if Leafs wanna save xap more or Arizoba wants to shed salary more decides the D included. Arizona gets a pick and prospect to replace their first and second rounder and sheds salary while also obtaining young roster player. Leafs upgrade goalie and get RHD to play with Reilly.

At worst, Freddy and Kuemper is a wash. But Kuemper also misses half of every year hurt, it seems.

I've never been a fan of Hjalmarsson, even when people gushed over him. And he ain't what he used to be. So we get a guy who has dropped off for one year?
