That's a tough one.
I think that is a pretty realistic and fair return for a non-clear cut #1.
But, I think I'd rather have him as our backup beyond this season. No idea what to do until then, though...

- Tonybere

if you keep him, what do you pay Georgiev in his new deal though, he has to be signed, and then he could go to arbitration too

it's a little messy

if the Rangers got a 2nd and 3rd rounder for Georgiev, would you want that?

or would you rather just hang onto him

- jimbro83

I like the kid, and I’d say no. But, of course, there are other options, and it also depends on the status of the prospects we have in the system, who I’ve heard good things about. Georgie has already proved he can deliver at this level, though.

I definitely think Hartford will be Huska/Wall next season

unless they sign someone like Berube to a contract to be expansion compliant and one of those two goes down to the ECHL

Georgiev is worth more than anything we could get in return for him now. he is someone that can handle games and we dont want to put Shesterkyn in the position to have to play 65 games. more optimal would be 55 or whatever that looks like next season, and especially if its compressed. as sad as it is to say this, hank has no value in a rangers uniform next year. he needs to retire. only way i can see a trade is if we retain some salary, get somebody to fill a void for a year or that is cheaper to buy out. or even somebody that can be flipped at the deadline.

I'm higher on Georgie than most people, but if you can get a good return this in itself isn't a great reason. Every offseason, there are a ton of goalies available that can play at a backup level. Looking just across the city, Greiss is a UFA and I don't see NYI keeping him. If you need a stopgap for a season, someone like him would be perfect and he would be expansion eligible.

You keep Georgie if you get scraps for a return, but I think I would consider Jim's proposal if we could get that for Georgie.

just think though

say they bought out Hank, or traded him and kept half the cap hit, that's around 5 million

then they have to give Georgiev a new contract too, and the cap space is thin as it is

personally I think the best thing to do overall is to trade Georgiev for whatever they can get

let Lundqvist finish out the last year of his deal if he doesn't retire

put Huska in the ECHL

sign Berube to a 2 year deal and have him share duties with Tyler Wall in Hartford

now, if Henrik retires, then it's all gravy

This is probably the plan. Don't they have to play in a NHL game though within so long of expansion? They might have to get someone like Condon or Dominique.

this is all the rule says:

One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list.

Elliotte Friedman on his 31 Thoughts podcast says that the Leafs/Penguins (Kapanen) trade caught people by surprise and the teams that are still playing were not happy about it.

Considering the Leafs are still in very deep trouble, I'd say they should be pretty happy the Pens got ripped off.

Junaka - link fixed, thanks for letting me know

Cap hit - as pointed out, if NY eats 50% of Lundqvist's salary to deal him, that comes off the $8.5 million AAV and not his 2020-21 salary. What the acquiring would have to pay is whatever portion of the remaining $4.5 million salary agreed upon between the two teams, with the Rangers able to cover 50% if that figure.

Alexandar Georgiev - is an RFA now and would need to be protected for the expansion draft next year. Igor Shesterkin will not be as he would only be in Year 2 of his ELC. Look for NY to sign a veteran cheap, like JF Berube, so they meet the requirement to expose one goalie in the draft.

Tom Seaver - my first sports icon and hero. I am extremely bummed and sad over his passing. The drop and throw mechanics. The knee scraping the dirt. The classic motion. His leadership on and off the field. How he changed the Mets’ franchise. RIP Tom Terrific #41

Quick #41 anecdote: Back in the day, security was pretty lax at ballparks. After a game, my buddy and I met up with Tom in the bowels of Shea. Here we were, a couple of hooligan trespassers. He shook our hands and couldn’t have been nicer. My condolences to all that loved him.

Could be cool if a Ranger decided to rock #41. Not many significant players have. Nice opportunity here.

I was looking at the Seaver trade, just at the return, not the other stuff and Pat Zachry at the time, he was only 25 and was coming off a season where he won the rookie of the year, and Steve Henderson was a helluva prospect and Doug Flynn was gonna be their Bucky Dent

Zachry never even remotely came close to duplicating that rookie season he had with the Reds

but man, bad trade

Seaver had 10 complete games when he was 40 years old on the White Sox, that's insanity

Wow.
It is such a different game now.
I have to say though, I always believed that MLB players were coddled like a bunch of primadonna's. But, this season with shortened training camp and pre-season they are dropping like flies!! Especially pitchers.

Awful trade but I just heard on WFAN that an article was written about Seaver’s wife jealous of Ryan’s wife over their husbands pay difference. And Seaver was like basically get me the fudge outta here. He really wanted to stay and was a model athlete for the city but the media (frank)s things up here sometimes.

Oh ok...thanks Jan. I didn’t catch the name of that fool. Seaver didn’t like Grant but would of stayed anyway.

Also that year Namath and Clyde Frazier were traded. Crazy to think about it all in the same year.

Seaver never wanted to leave. He only changed his mind when Lang/Grant brought his wife into the equation.

Yes, Namath to the Rams, Frazier to the Cavaliers.

Giacomin to the Wings, same kinda thing

the mid 70's was a bit depressing for NYC sports teams
