Watching the replay of Game 5 right now (DVRd from the NHLN earlier today). At the part where Coots and Barzal collide knee to knee. Totally incidental. If anything, Coots makes a run towards Barzal, but I don't think he was looking to make contact, just trying to get to a spot where he can get open to make a shot (the puck was nowhere near either of them) and didn't realize he was on a collision course with Barzal.
Coots does slowly get up and "limps" to the bench. Although in real time, while you could tell something wasn't right, he actually didn't look to be in serious pain in doing so. At least I couldn't detect a grimace.
Anyway, it all happening the previous O-zone entry prior to JVR's goal. One thing I missed during live play was that they showed the Flyers bench celebrating. And sitting therein the middle of it is Coots. He was grinning and cheering with the rest of the bench, and there was no way he looked to be in pain. Since someone earlier stated he did take one more shift, I wonder if that actually made it worse than just sitting out the rest of the game. |

No coots in the warmup. Barzal is in. Not good. I was wondering though. If he’s really out the entire playoffs. Wouldn’t he exit the bubble? |

Since you brought this up, take a closer look at the very last instant before the collision. Doesn't Barzal stick out his leg to get Coots beyomd what his natural progression would necessitate?
Not saying he intended to cause it, just seemed he was trying to impede/trip/.

Yep. And barzal is in. This isn’t good. We’re going to need major luck to stay in this one. |

Never did a group break, but I'd also never spend $700 on a 5-card pack of The Cup.
I'm looking to unload. Have 2 Giroux The Cup rookies (2 and 3 color), his SPA FW /100, and basically every RC of his. Also a lot of Ghost and some other stuff (Richards The Cup and just a lot of random). Interest? - jmatchett383
I wish. I’m pretty broke now. I decide to invest in a bunch of Hart rookies then I discovered group breaks have just been blowing money on that. Haven’t hit anything huge but got a Hart rookie autograph and pretty sweet Nolan Patrick rookie autograph/jersey card numbered to 12 out of a Cup break. |

I do understand. You are essentially posting the Malcolm Gladwell/Cass Sunstein kind of heuristic and biases thesis.
Keep in mind though that people often learn from such biases and walk away from them, something those guys do not say (what happens to the guys who wear their favorite lucky jerseys or bet black and then end up on a long losing streak with it on, as is inevitable? Do they still cling to their beliefs? Why, since the premise is destroyed?)
I was just saying that my own superstitions are different. They are a rationally embraced exercise. Its not because I wore this jersey x times and Flyers won or anything like that, as you are saying.
I don't bet against the Flyers no matter how likely I think it is they will lose, because I choose to bar reason from that domain. I don't keep track and think: gee, look, I did not bet the last 10 times, so might as well, won't make any difference, so I will bet.
Hope this completely irrelevant philosophical exercise makes sense. There are obvious dangers to extrapolating it to more important domains where the lives of other people are involved.
- PT21
Philosophical exercise ? What ....
Okkkkkkkkkkkkkk..... I was pointing out ''rituals/superstitions'' in hockey fan's for Christ's sake. LOL
What are you superstitions then if any BTW????
And if any why do you do them?
I was pointing to specific behaviors, the causes and even stated that people are conscious, aware that what they wear or with whom they watch the game makes no difference on the outcome put they still do it. Like myself wearing a specific Philly jersey in must win games.
I didn't use the example where an individual loses it all (ex: compulsive gambling / gambling addiction) as you did. That is totally different nor really relevant on the spectrum of superstition since it is more related as I said earlier to an addiction problem. There is a difference between the occasional gambler or alcohol drinker Vs the a individual who cannot stop himself that needs help and treatment.
There's definitely a continuum to those behaviors ..... I am wearing my ''Winning Jersey'' tonight and I am choosing to wear it since I'm a (frank)ing Flyer !!!!

Mostly it's new stuff.
Some packs of 5-8 cards cost upwards of $150, with one specific product being $700+ for 5 cards. So spending $50-$80 bucks to get every card of one team from the entire case (case is several boxes worth) is more affordable, but you could strike out completely. - jmatchett383
Yup. And the prices only get higher for other sports. And if they do a pack from day LeBron or Trout’s rookie year those spots cost a ton. |

It looks like he he was trying to turn at the last instant cause he saw Coots about to collide with him, and thus that was why he stuck his leg out.
I also just got to the part where Farabee was hit by Pelech. I don't know why that didn't get a DOPS look. I'm really pissed that none of the teammates came to Bee's defense when it happened. The play had stopped right after it happened, Bee immediately goes to the bench, and everybody goes about the business like nothing happened. I almost believe if one the guys on the ice goes right after Pelech, plus anyone on the bench chirping the refs, that it might have given it the attention needed by the league for the DOPS to give it a look. |

Agreed. Someone hit a 1/6 Carter Hart booklet that had basically the entire Flyers logo of his jersey minus the wings. I tried to trade for Philly before that break but it was a no go.
I’ve only hit relatively minor stuff in The Cup. I did just invest in a 1 of 1 Frost rookie from Stature. That and a 5 of 7 Hart auto from juniors are easily my best cards. |

Hopefully this ju ST means we win the cup. They will give it some time but it will be an excellent feel good sports movie in about 20 years. Disney looking into the rights. Incredible start, cancer, pandemic, return, contributes with emotional lift and chips in a few important goals and assists.

My favorite Flyers card is actually a Richards Patch /10 from ITG of him holding the Calder Cup. I just always wanted it and love it.
Of course, now the print run could be anything since they emptied the vault. Jerks.
Edit: Actually, I have a Hextall/Billy Smith aceyate dual auto from Trilogy that I will never part with. The design is amazing. And the 92/93 Lindros "Promo" card. Thing was like $150 when it came out, now it's like $5...but I love it. |
