He had one down year where he still put up 60 points. Patrick Kane also had a down year at about the same point in his career and has only had one season since where he scored less than a point per game. He sure didn't need a fresh start. - Hunkulese
With the tiiiiiiiiiny difference being that Kane has 3 Cups and a Conn Smythe while the only silver Gaudreau has is the Invisible Man Trophy 2 years in a row. |

Kane has zero Cups if he was playing for the Flames. He has 3 Cups because he was a part of some amazing teams with all the right parts. A lot of those parts were there because the Hawks were terrible at the right time. |

Kane has a Conn Smythe. Hawks probably would only have 1 or 2 cups if Kane had been invisible in the playoffs, maybe even none.
Gaudreau has brought the Flames nowhere. That's what expected of a superstar. |

What's your excuse for Tkachuk then? No one can do it all themselves. If Gaudreau does Gaudreau things and Tkachuk does Tkachuk things, they can beat anyone if the rest of the team shows up. |

Bennett was the front-runner before playoffs but doubt it after what he showed. I think they'll keep him for 3C now.
What does CBJ need? I'd say a pick (2nd/3rd) and a big-body B prospect (Ruzicka) to offset the loss of JA would be the initial offer. - LittleBroDougie
A top 6 LW and #2C
How about something like Savard + Anderson + a 2nd rd pick for JG? |

Tkachuk's no superstar (yet) and isn't expected to carry the team on his shoulders (yet).
And Gaudreau hasn't been doing Gaudreau things for about a year and a half now. That's pretty much the (frank)ing point.

Can't win a Cup without multiple superstars. Superstars aren't signing in Calgary, so they better keep the ones the draft. Do you think Tkachuk sticks around if the Flames have no chance of winning?
They can probably keep the number reasonable since COVID is still going to be a thing. - Hunkulese

If Freddie resigns then TO gets Hanifan or Anderson and a 4th and the Flames also get Dermott and Bracco. |

First I think Bergevin would easily give Domi & their 2020 1st for Hanafin. Then I would trade Gaudreau to the star craving Jackets for Josh Anderson, Savard & their 1st rounder (13th I believe) . We then have 3 darts in the middle of the 1st round & have added Domi, Anderson & Savard who is a RHD with 1 year left to UFA that play 20 minutes a night with Gio. Vali can play with Andersen & the rest of the guys fight for the 5,6,7 jobs. Move Lindholm to centre with Chucky lW & J Anderson on RW. I like the grit on that line. I would keep Benny Lucic(we have him for at least another year) & Dubes for the 3rd line. I would offer Backlund & our 19th OA to Buffalo for the #8 & a prospect like Middlestadt because Cozan has leap frogged him. Then I would put Monahan with Domi & Magpie. We have the 8th 13th & 15th picks in the draft & that should beef up our cupboards as long as we dont draft like that fcking Feaster & take Klimchuk & Porrier type players. We also dont need to sign Hall, but we could if he came cheap enough & we changed the core a bit & have a decent top 9.
Thank you, our retooling is done & we got as good of picks as what we had when we blew things up when we traded Iggy & JBo & Kipper retired. Its just our team today would be light years ahead. |

My humble analysis:
Josh Anderson is a power forward wannabe who is big bodied and not altogether consistent and who hasn't proven to be any better in the playoffs than what we already have. Not interested in trading for someone like that who also may have injury issues.
Frederik Andersen had three really good years, all with the Ducks and perhaps only three decent playoff years when he didn't choke under pressure. He would prove to be expensive and unreliable. Granted, in recent years, he's played on teams that didn't defensively support him well. My personal opinion is that he's vastly overrated since he came to the Leafs from an at that time very defensively sound Ducks team.
Max Domi is interesting. He seems to be a consistent set-up guy. Definitely not top line material, yet, but he's been around for 5 years so if not now, then when. I can see the argument for him centering the second line, bumping Backlund down to centre the third line and maybe giving Bennett a shot at co-centering the top line with Lindholm (this would mean moving Monahan who, at this point, seems to be the least dynamic of the current Flames centres). So, maybe a trade would look like Monahan for Domi and a 2nd rounder? But would that make sense to both teams? Probably not. |

I know Monny hasn’t had a great playoff record but I can’t understand why everyone is so hot to trade him.
Ward should have scrambled those lines to try to generate a pulse. I like Domi, agree on Anderson and Andersen |

On Andersen: he was lights out in the play in round and he’s only had two playoffs where his sv% is under .913. I disagree on your assessment of him and think he’d be a massive upgrade.
I agree on Anderson, though. I’m not huge on the Flames trading for him at all, much less including Gaudreau in any trade for him. |

I agree. If they could have held on, then they would likely have had the confidence to finish off the Stars. Stupid penalties, by Gio, of all people cost them big time!
Of course, then they would have played Vegas in the second round and they haven't historically had much of any success against Vegas. Still, it would have meant another step in the right direction.
Bottom line is that the Flames core ego is too fragile to lift them out of their despair, as we saw in game 6, which pretty much mirrored their style of play after game one of round one last year. |

You're right - Ward should have scrambled those lines - anything to get a spark out of any of that top line.
IMO, the reason that everyone is hot to trade Monahan is that it's becoming very clear that he's a passenger on this team in that he doesn't drive play, doesn't create scoring opportunities for his linemates, and his Corsi-for stats aren't anything special. Simply put, during the regular season, he's the beneficiary of a ton of opportunity created by his linemates. When those opportunities dry up in the post season due to other teams' tightened defence, he becomes a ghost.
It's too bad that the Flames couldn't have landed Mark Stone when Ottawa was looking for a trade partner. He would have brought the kind of energy and skill that the Flames need. |

Way way underselling Monahan! Domi & their 1st I would hesitate doing. Domi has only had one decent offensive year, Monahan scores 25 goals at will & usually 30. You dont give away centres that score goals as consistently as Monahan. I dont care what you think the rest of his game looks like. Made that mistake with Brett Hull.
Prefer to move Backlund quite frankly. |

Yeah if they re doing a retool time to move on from Backs. Sell high. He had a good playoffs and great year with Tkachuk. But with his age he will not have many more good years.
