The Maple Leafs could bring in the second coming of Pat Roy and they would be a failure with that awful defense and their slap and tickle brand of hockey. |

Mike, your wrong about the Andersen deal and Murray and let me explain why. The only way that deal happens, is if Toronto keeps some of that $5 million dollar deal. The Penguins are cash strapped for next season, and there are two reasons for Murray being shopped. 1. The Pens are cash strapped and cannot afford anything north of 5 per for a goalie. 2. Murrays value decreased and the Pens want to move in another direction, skillset aside. The Pens are not about to take a 30 year old goalie for $5 million for one year, its not going to happen. The Penguins can just as easily move Murray anywhere for something, and not pay out $5 mill for a rental. The only way this deal happens is if Toronto retains some of that money, and will have to include a roster player and or a top six, a bottom six won't get it done. While we can agree to disagree, I don't know if you thought it out before writing that. - FormerProPlayer
Anderson is owed 1 million cash this year. He is the perfect option if the pens are indeed "cash strapped"

wasn't that you who posted the hainsey comment?
Might be worth it to create an account just to post about bringing the unfairly maligned hutchinson back. - Tumbleweed
No I like Hainsey when he was here, knew where to be at least...he’s too old now. |

Let's not kid ourselves -- other than maybe the Top 5, the Entry Draft is pretty much a crapshoot.
Askarov gets compared to Vasiliveskiy who also went in the 1st round. That's good enough for me! - mjones242
I wouldn't mind picking Askarov at #15 - if he's still available, but there may be some decent d-men available this draft, despite the fact that it is loaded with forwards. If you look at the list that Adam posted on the previous blog:
Drysdale (4-6)
Sanderson (4-9)
Guhle (14-20)
Schneider (15-22)
Poirier (16-35)
Grans (17-25)
Kuznetsov (20-40)
Mukhamadullin (25-100)
O'Rourke (30-50)
Villeneuve (30-60)
Askarov might be worth taking if available but I wouldn't mind 2 or 3 of these, particularly if Leafs are able to parlay Andersen into a pick. From what I've read about the Russian kid he hits a ton and can skate and has a hard shot from the point. All elements needed by the Leafs

I mentioned Grans in another thread and I also like Schneider. Both are big RHD with mobility. |

Grans is a not much of a hitter but might be worth a second rounder, my hope is that
Mukhamadullin is taken in the second round by the Leafs. I don't put much stock in the RHD over LHD. In the first round, I would probably prefer Guhle over Schneider for that reason.
Adam knows much more than me, I was curious why he left William Wallinder and Justin Barron off his list. Barron is a RHD expected to go in round one.

Not sure why Barron didn't make the list though I think some have him as 2nd rounder. Guess Wallinder is in the same boat?
As per RHD vs LHD, I definitely put stock into it. |

Here's why I don't care so much about RHD and LDH balance. Do you know who Bobby Orr's RDH was in Boston? His name was Dallas Smith - was he any good - who cares?

Well, if we can land Bobby Orr 2.0, I think I'll care less about handedness. |

So there's some exceptions to the rule? Like, when you have two HoF defenseman? - mjones242
We need two of those, and Pat Roy
And Kadri and Hutch |

Listen to this from Leafs lunch today. Boudreau talks about how his dad cursed the leafs and won't win a cup until they bring Boudreau back. I'd sign him as an assistant just in case it's true. 1 year doesn't hurt. |

Leafs should trade Nylander +2021 second round to Jersey for the 7th overall pick and then draft Askarov, take Schneider with the 15th pick and flip Andersen for picks / prospects, and then flip 2021 first rounder, AJ and Dermott to the Blues for Parayko - not sure that would be enough. New goalie - check. 2 new RHD - check. Cleared some space for other UFA's - check. |
