I saw you on the Islanders blog talking about how you dreaded the game because the isles were going to crush us
Your fan card has been removed and the flyers hate you

Well, we’re lucky to still be playing but so glad we’ve got the chance to win this series against a team that matches up very well against us. TK not scoring but he certainly has been in on the offence thus far. - Dave21Brown
I don't agree we are lucky to still be playing.
The goalie position is as important, if not the most important, position on a team. The facts are that the skill of Hart has put them in a position to succeed. |

Have to agree, humongous sample set there. Kudos for manning up though.
And btw, iXG is by now a widely used measure by guys who make their living writing about hockey. There is the Corsi type crowd and the iXG type crowd, but a responsible writer mentions both. - PT21
Nice childish reply.
Well, yea, guys covering hockey have to use something to write about players and games they didn't actually watch.
So what is the expected goal% percentage of the shot that JVR scored? From distance and unscreened? Yet it went in.
What is the expected goal percentage on the shot Provorov took on the OT GWG? From distance with heavy traffic in front? Yet it went in.
Expected goal stats aren't real. It's fantasy. It's not based on what actually happened.
You keep using stats that you really don't understand. |

Well done.
Hart stole that game. I watched almost all of it, and the Isles were buzzing around and throwing shots at him from every angle and through traffic. He made numerous game-saving stops before you folks finally took over in the 2OT.
I was rooting for you guys, for a combination of reasons, but I genuinely want to see a Philly-TBL conference final. Talk about fire wagon hockey. Isles are just the Blue Jackets cranked up a notch. Boring.

So you think being dismantled in every phase of the game is a formula for prolonged success?
Hockey is unlike any other team sport. The goaltender can cover up for a million mistakes. Playing the way the Flyers have played in this series and winning isn't sustainable. That said, Hart's stellar play has kept them in this series and they can turn their team game around and play better hockey. Going back to the Montreal series, the team hasn't played well overall.
They played very well in the round robin games. That is the type of hockey they have to start playing. |

Whats the expected chance of being struck by lightning? Yet somebody is struck all the time. Whats the expected chance of a traffic accident? Yet thousand die.
High danger scoring chances originate with the idea of refining Corsi, to look at shots from areas which empirically lead to greater goals from a huge data set. Fenwick takes out blocked shots with the same goal (refining Corsi) in mind.
Is it perfect? Of course not. Should it be looked at? Of course it should.
Its called elementary probability.Once you acquaint yourself with the concept, assuming you have the ability, which I have to confess I doubt, you might understand. I am not holding my breath.
Until then though, you will keep making statements like: "expected goals aren't real. they are fantasy."
Bye.

First , Gotta say I am super Impressed with the Young D core the Flyers have. I think it is going to be one of the best going into the future without question.
Second Varley is Done. He cracks under pressure , he's great as the underdog but when he is expected to be good or great he splits at the seems. If he plays the Flyers will chase him.
And Lastly I want to see some Damn History , wouldn't it be Frickin Amazing to see not 1 or 2 but 3 Series where a team that is down 3-1 and comes back to WIN the series. And to have it all happen in the same round & in a 2 day Window , That would be Outstanding . History like this could only happen in the Bubble !!!

I think analytics are a good tool. I think how they are used in coaching/teaching are the most important. I'd like to see how individual teams rely on analytics as part of their game prep.
That said, a game like last night, no analytics are needed.

Not getting into expected or unexpected. But there are plenty of goals scored from the top of the circle where jvr let it rip. Hate him but Marchand loves sniping from there. |

Oh I agree. I was just trying to narrow down the subjectivity of Giroux had a good game or not.
The most important elements of yesterday's game were Hart, heart, and Hayes. A few other pieces were also there worthy of mention but overall they were outplayed in a way that was embarrassing and were extremely lucky to come away with the win. |

A couple things surprised me when looking at the box score. G played over 30 minutes. Oscar has 17. I don’t think a single isles forward played over 30.
Seems like tk is waking up. He is chirping again.

I’m no huge Islanders fan but don’t you think watching Barzal is exciting? He generates good scoring chances nearly every time he’s on the ice.
Their 4th line is methodical and has some skill too. Probably the best 4th line in the game.
Maybe excelling at forechecking and scoring off turnovers and then playing tight 5 man as a group D is boring(?) but it’s a winning formula in playoff hockey.
I could do with less grabbing and picking and interfering but if the refs don’t call it then you can get away with it. |

I think the g pass to Scott. I think he was trying to bank it off the boards to Scott. Was a hard pass and appeared to be behind Scott in stride. When the isles deflected it it bounced right to him. Seems like they have been doing a lot of bank passes recently. |

G and Jake didn’t have their best game, they were below their game 5 performance for sure.
But their line helped certainly played evenly with the top two Isle lines and G’s face off performance was huge last night.
Hart and Hayes were the first two stars, but they don’t win that game without the contributions of G Jake and JvR. |

Laughed out loud when Jones mentioned how Boston had the three picks before the isles that year. Talk about wanting a redraft. |

Never remember a flyers team that turns the pick over as much as his team. I watch the he isles fwd and they all hustle every shift. Back check like demons. CAnt say the same about flyers fwd.
Rough series for Sanheim though in the long run will do wonders for him imo |
