The problem I have with Kreider is he is also supposed to lead by example on the ice. There are way too many games a year where you don't even know he is playing. Thats why he should be disqualified. imo

But what about the original question: Do we need a captain? I’m not so sure we do - yet. What I am pretty sure about is that anyone stepping into the role should want to, and that it should be someone that the rest of the team wants also. Is that Krieds? Maybe. But I also think the concept of having a captain can be flawed, sometimes, in team sports. It’s been a hockey tradition for a long time, but we’ve seen some movement away from it. It has not been a baseball tradition, yet some teams, like our Mets, have done it, I believe, to their own detriment. David Wright was a very good ball player, but not a leader of men on or off a baseball field, IMO. I think it comes down to having an intimate knowledge of the pulse of the team. But if there is no clear candidate, like a Messier, for example, or even someone with a good deal of his leadership skills, it may be best to stick with the committee of “A”s until a true leader emerges.
