No but things can change quickly if the team steps back next season. Which I believe they will because I have absolutely no faith in Benning. |

AS Bloated says this team has been bad for so long he has no trust.
I think Hughes and Petey will get better next year and Brock Bo and Demko all took steps up. I expect all of those mentioned to have better years next year so I am not sure they will fall back.

Everyone can have a career year but if they don’t get even near the lights-out goaltending they received this year, it’ll be all for not, because you can’t win playing like they do. |

I don't buy the Career Year comment about Petey Hughes Bo Brock and Demko. There has been continual improvement year to year.
Outstanding goal tending is part of a championship team. I am not going to make excuses for Canucks having good goal tending .
You can win the way they played, because they just did. They did beat Minny who was one of the hottest teams going into the break. They beat last years SC champs and they took this years SC champs to game 7.
I think they will make upgrades again this year.

A team can't face 40-50 shots a game all season long and expect to be in the top 10. Maybe in a 5 or 7 game series you can get lucky but to sustain that through a regular season is not realistic. |

They were in a middling group of teams with ‘out of this world’ goaltending, not raining on the parade, just saying it’s not a sustainable way of playing and expecting to have success. A lot of changes need to be made. |

Yup.
From Patrick Johnston;
General manager Jim Benning will be in a far better position to optimize his roster if he can find a way to get out from under some of the self-inflicted cap problems he’s currently looking at.
But when you look at the salary cap, you are still reminded of some of the poor decisions of the past. |

Being in my 50’s and watching this team for a very long time has lead me to some skepticism, I’ll admit, however, as much as I enjoyed the recent games, they beat another middling team 3-2 after a four month break, they barely beat a Blues team that couldn’t get rolling after a four month break and they were lucky they weren’t swept by Vegas they were so badly outplayed.
Love the young core but I’m not as optimistic as you are that they can greatly improve, which imo they need to do, under Jim Benning. |

Badly outplayed ? Vegas going into game 7 looked rattled. Canucks as badly as they were outplayed were one shot away from going to the final 4 with 6 minutes left in the game.
St L finished the season on top of their division and Vegas IMO are the best team in the league. We are not talking about squeaking by Detroit and Ottawa.
I get that there are people here that don't like Benning and are happy to see him fall flat on his face but don't take away from what they did this year. They beat two solid teams and went to game 7 against the best. Enjoy the process.

We need to get bigger on D. Also need a shooter back there that can get them through. Take some heat off of the forwards. Beyond Hughes there isn't enough offence from our D.
I also agree bottom 6 needs a makeover.
Top 6, at this point you need a winger that can play heavy and score. TT isn't that guy. If we sign him, we still need beef in our top 6.
That's a lot of changes in my mind as well. |

You and about three other people in the world are the only ones who can’t see how lucky they were to not get swept by Vegas, I guess? But it was fun to see them play again. |

Best GM in Canucks history, agree that the bottom 5 need revamping, hopefully he is around to see the prize on a great job he’s done. |

Agree with your post, as much as I am not a fan of Green, he had the team play collapsed defensive hockey so that Demko could see the puck to make the saves. Green knew he couldn’t compete run and gun with Vegas, everyone on the bottom six except Motte needs changing.
Exciting team, exciting times as a Canucks fan, top 10 next season.

I don't see them changing the entire bottom 6 next year but I do agree Motte needs a contract.
You are then looking at Roussel who I think will be moved.
Zack I don't think is going anywhere
Jake most on here agree he is gone
Sutter I don't tink is going anywhere but wont have a main role.
Gauds could still be here but not surprised if they upgrade for more speed and better D
Beagle no comment because I don't know |
