Which comes to to the forwards, they don't provide enough support for the defense.
It is pretty sad when the only forward that I ever see giving some consistent support is Loui Fuc king Erickson. He supplies a bit of a pick when oppositiin going in on forehead, he gives an option as an outlet pass, wins board battle in defensive zone.
The only other player consistent at this is Miller, but hey, its the defensemen fault. Lol - Reubenkincade
Some good coaching would help in that regard. |

Our team defense sucks, it wouldn't matter if this team had Hedman,Seth Jones, Pietroangelo, Makar, and Heiskanen. If this forward group can't help out they will be relying on goaltending for a long time.
I would be focusing on upgrading the forwards.
Derek Grant and Curtis Lazar would be big upgrades over Gaudette/Sutter/Beagle, at about 1 million per. - Reubenkincade
^this
This team lacks depth in forwards outside their core , overall defense outside of Hughes, and a system where the 5 players on the ice can defend together (we saw vegas dismantle the canucks as a team who can play defensive hockey and quickly go north and create offense from it). I think the canucks playing vegas, having endless tape of "what went wrong", and being able to maybe dissect and take a bunch away from vegas will be good for them. I think the whole playoff experience as a whole will be good for this club. |

I like Green, I think he grew in the playoffs and was able to get a lot out of the team, but I would like to see them move on from Baumgaurtner. I think they can get a better D coach that will help with the team defense system. |

Mark Stone and William Karlsson should be the poster boys for how forwards should play two-way hockey |

And Brown. The PP against Vegas was an embarrassment

Geez Rubes you woke up right cranky. I just think there's upgrades to be made back there size wise to compete. Also to protect the puck and defend against the heavy forecheck. There's a big difference between holding your position solidly and getting knocked backward and giving up position to the offense.
I'm sure we'll make our way to the forwards who are also guilty of this, but for some reason the discussion started around Defence.

Keep Malhotra, fire the rest.
Unfortunately, Green will get an extension.
The power play is a travesty. |

I was hoping Jake would turn out somewhat like Stone, he has some crafty takeaways, like Stone, just can't do it consistently enough.
Another good 2-way forward is Jamie Benn. Lots of good all-around players in that series.
I am pulling for Dallas, as they are less douchier |

Because it's easy to blame the defense while overlooking the 5 man unit. Yes, the defense needs upgrades beyond Hughes but the forward group has many holes to fill. Also, coaching team defense needs to improve vastly even though they are contenders. |

100%. There is a bigger issue with team defense than our individual defensemen. I actually don't think baumer has done a bad job. His deployment of Hughes has been great, his deployment of others seems appropriate for who gets what ice time. I think its not as bad if the canucks don't have a lack of depth at the position. I sort of like what baumer did this year
Don't get me started on that hack Newell Brown though. Guy is a bum |

I hope they win the tournament thingy. I hope that Tom Gaglardi then phones Aquilini and says 'that's how you build a winning team'. |

Agree here and Dumba Hughes on the PP could be good... But if we are gonna toss that kind of cash around go after Krug. He would be an unreal fit with Hughes IMO. - LordHumungous
It would probably be BB going the other way for Dumba. |

I wasn't blaming anyone. I was enjoying a discussion on how I feel our D men stack up against other units that are having success. To my tastes, I'd like some more size and a good shot back there.

Lol.
I am not cranky about it at all, just pointing out that this forward group is questionable when it comes to helping out on defense.
I know most fans love the offense and seem to overlook the forwards terrible play out side of the opposition blueline.
The team had a nice surprising run, but need to get better at all facets of the game without the puck.[/img] |

Sorry, I wasn't implying you specifically, just a general, it's easy to look at the D and not team defense. Maybe switch to decaf. |

Burke was on SN before talking about the cap league wide. He thinks goalies will get paid as long as it is in reason but aside from Pietrangelo all other UFAs are going to have a reality check. He thinks the cap will be flat for 5 years.
He thinks Teams will rely on their ELCs . Something along the lines of what Benning alluded to. |

JV + Stetcher ++. Wouldn't want to create a hole up front to fix a hole on D. Would also probably have to send Sven or Beagle for cap reasons, and would mean rocking Demko instead of Marky |

There's lots of UFA's as well if his demands are too high. Don't get handcuffed.

I think unlike other years the teams hands are not tied this year. If he wants crazy money and a NMC then enjoy Edmonton.
I do think they will work it out. |
