I was. The V contract was an albatross before it even kicked in. That was really Snyder. He loved Jake for some reason... Jake never looked as good again.
- BadCowboyDan
Voracek had that ridiculous 1st half to that season before the contract, where he was averaging 1.5 ppg.
Snyder loved Jake, and so did Holmgren. The latter made a comment I still remember:
"People like Jake come around one in a million." or something like that.
And I remember thinking jeez- what does his personal qualities have to do with winning a cup?
Claude Lemieux was a legendary douche who was a great playoff performer. |

You wanna see a pattern? Every time a player gets paid, he dials it back and becomes a "Family" man. Most of these guys have no passion for winning. Don't get me wrong, they want to win, just not bad enough to make the sacrifice. Guys like Provy and Hart are an exception. They eat, sleep, and breathe hockey... They go to the next level. G, Jake, JVR ad Ghost are the opposite of passion.
And Patrick? Don't delude yourself into thinking he will ever be meaningful in hockey again. he was soft from the beginning, this head thing will force him to play conservative and always be one good hit away from the end of his career. That is no way to play hockey... - BadCowboyDan
I was too... just being a wiener today... the reads are always great after a loss and for a laugh.

I admire your optimism, but here is my point-by-point response:
1.
Patrick may not be able to play 40 games a season again, may not be the same player if fear of concussions is an issue, and was frankly, underachieving relative to expectations before he went down.
Lindblom had a nice start to last season. he had hit a wall long before his injury, after he was no longer on the same line with Couts and TK. And you don't cure cancer, it only goes into remission. Enough said about the last part.
2. How do you know he will be quality before he ever plays?
3. No, we MAY have one of the best YOUNG goalies in the game. Don't anoint him as a Vezina star just yet. Broan Boucher says hi from his rookie season!
4. The same solid top 4 where the veteran first pairing looked like he was done, and the young second pairing got repeatedly undressed? Correction: We MAY have a good top 3.
5. Interesting use of knocking on door. Tell me why he has been shown out so often then and could not play above a guy 2 months away from cancer treatment? Optimistically, in the best case scenario, Farabee and Frost are 2-3 years away from playing top 2 line roles on a good club.
6. Two years.
7. JVR , Ghost, Voracek and Roo raise a cheer.
8. In EXACTLY the same way they ran out of gas in 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20, with some of the SAME PLAYERS. Gee, I wonder why that is.
9. Like I said, that familiar refrain rises again. (" As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again. After all, tomorrow is another day!)
In summary: here is the situation. We currently have what looks like a club that is on merit and talent somewhere in the 8-16 range. There are some promising pieces, which are at best 50-50 to be stars, so the median guess is we will largely stay in that range based on current course. - PT21
1) That is purely speculatory based on absolutely no information on his issues or how he feel. Lindblom hit a wall? A rookie not playing consistently at a top level? You dont say?.........
2) We know what he is capable of. We have seen flashes of it. Obviously if he is coming back the issues will not hinder him
3) Hart is clearly the real deal. You can tell by the way he handles situations and his mental strength. Calling him a Vezina winner is premature but he is going to be the best goalie we have had in a long time.
4) Your point is laughable. Provorov is playing in his second post season. Niskanen is not a future piece. Sanheim and Myers ARE ROOKIES. Neither of them had more than 1 season under their belt prior to this year and this was their first ever playoff. Young players have growing pains.
5) Farabee and Frost dont have set timetables. They are ready when they are ready. If they are on the 3rd line in 2 years thats still a great 3rd line. That being said todays NHL doesnt really have lines based on talent anymore. Its pretty much based on who plays well with who and what gives the team the most balanced offense. Farabee has been used often on the top line and had some success. His timetable is likely a lot quicker than Frost atm
6) We are in the same position as the Isles last year. This team wasnt ready to go deep this year. They clearly looked gassed. It was a little concerning but players grow and get better. Injuries happen and despite the "no excuse" quote, playing while hurt clearly has an effect on players. You cant play your best hurt. That is just common sense.
Honestly Im not even going to bother with the rest. Not even worth the time. Bad enough I spent this long writing this.

Lol one hit away from ending his hockey career? People said the same thing about Crosby and how many years has he played since? You have no clue what you’re talking about. |

Are you seriously making the case that Patrick did not play because he missed training camp in 2019 and was thus fitter than Lindblom who did but since then underwent radiation, surgery, and chemo this year?
Every player had a layoff that is far worse than the traditional layoffs between seasons. This was essentially a new season. They had a 2020 3 week camp prior to this season.
Explain to me why it was enough for the other players and not for Patrick?
You are clutching at straws. - PT21
I can and have explained it. I cant understand it for you........ |

Guy lost me at Voracek was never good again. Jake had a career year recently. Few years after his extension too. |

No, you're clutching at straws and really whining with every post. The Flyers have a plan in place with Patrick and that was to try and get ready for the 20/21 season. There was no situation where he was going to play. Hence there was no reason to take him to the bubble.

Remember when they traded richards and carter, how bright the future was?
I thought so at the time too...
For me, the future won’t be “bright” until we land some real franchise forwards... i think our d-corp is fine but they and hart need to take steps next year.
We also need guys who are real number 1’s.
Not guys who are number 1 against mediocrity or when the better teams take a night off. We need guys who can impose their will on the competition.
Gawde our pp was a joke and it says a lot. - JoeRussomanno
They have the talent. Jake is talented and strong enough to dominate, he just doesn't have the heart. JVR? That is a guy mailing it in if there ever was one. Ghost is frustrated but seems to be trying. He needs a new start somewhere else (EDM)? G, the most talented on the team, but the opposite of clutch, should never have been made Captain. Size in the playoffs really matters. That doesn't bode well for TK or G or Ghost, or... My fear now is that Myers had a good year, but he will resign and who knows... We really have a solid D and Goalie, so there's that. Gotta get creative with the players up front. Wish contracts weren't so guaranteed. |

For the record, Lindblom is not a rookie, this is his third season, and this is Sanheim's second postseason.
And as for your comment accusing me of speculation, yes exactly. All your optimism is precisely that.
You should stick to betting against your team, publicly saying so, and then hastily deleting your posts.
You are a moron.

I think TK is guy you hold onto as for the rest, sigh... i really liked jake but he basically cat-fished us into that contract. Despite his career year, i’ve been sour on him and giroux for years bc well, Last night’s game is the type of thing I saw going all the way back to that series with NJ when we had bryzgalov... those two don’t have the guts to win. It’s that simple. They put up nice meaningless numbers but we will never contend with them as the face of the franchise....
I like to call them the Flyers’ version of Lieberthal and Abreu.

Dude! Are you kidding me? You should've given that a little thought...
He has a "Migraine Disorder" it requires a balancing act that Hockey isn't a good part of. The problem is already in his head and it WILL affect his abilitity to play without fear. That's just the Psych side. He gets a concussion, you think he's just gonna jump right back in? if I were him, I would be looking at a career move. Chronic pain will change who you are. |

So, in your book, the only rationale for calling someone a moron is in retaliation?
Not when someone presents a body of evidence as detailed as yourself?

You don't part with Hart for anyone not named McDavid. Building from the net out is a solid approach, we just need a little more time to sort out the garbage up front. We are in a good spot if we acknowledge the changes we need to make, and make them. |

Agreed. Idk why Buffalo would have any interest in moving him right now and I don’t see any substantial report that he wants out.
That’s basically like another team asking us to move Provorov right now. Zero sense. |

Well there you go. With the amount of times that you're wrong, how would you possibly know if it's merited? Someone like yourself who claims to be so smart and educated, with a Phd. and working in academia should know that reacting emotionally before sitting back and reflecting is not a good idea. You've posted so much crap already just today. You sound like a teenager who just got dumped. |
