Me too. Luckily we were able to turn Nylander into Joker, whom I’d also take right now in his point of his career over Fowler.

I think it’s fair to say we’d be asking the same questions and having the same agreements about players taken in the 8-10 range this year as well over having a player like Monahan.

The proven commodity helps today, may not be the best option tomorrow.

'Finishing your check' means you didn't get there in time to make an actual play on the puck.

The ultimate goal of 'finishing your check' is to injure the opposing player, whether a little or a lot, to get them to he scared to play.

I hate it, personally of course.

- kingcong39

I am not hitting them to injure, I am trying to make them rush or think to much.

It sure af helps today, if Jack wants out because this management team did the bare minimum.

There's a huge difference between the current situation than in most years.

And you can put out the lame argument that we'd really need the 8OA pick if Jack leaves. To that I say, enjoy another 8 year rebuild.

To that I say, is the drop off between Monahan and any other options available worth giving up the 8th OA pick ?

And if we do move the 8th OA pick, what other plans do we have to supplement the roster ?

If you trade that pick it essentially signals we are going all in for a 3 year window until Monahan is a UFA. What if he walks in three years ?

What contract will we have to give him to retain his services and will that work in relation to the contracts we will already have ?

Monahan is better than 70% of the players taken at 8 in the past 10 years. So yes

I'm not saying it HAS to be Monahan. No one is. His name just keeps coming up. It could be someone else.

And managing scared gets you nowhere either. If it's Monahan, then worry about extending Monahan in 2 years. If we're good, maybe he stays.

Do we EVER want to win here, or just collect prospects?

I'm done with it.

Agree with a lot of what you're saying Pegs, but who's to say we can't trade him and recoup. Who's to say that some of are prospects don't surprise in that time.

The 8th has more value for our future and that player could be on our roster this upcoming season .. prospects are playing over seas and will be more Seasoned when hockey starts in December

I'm done worrying about the what if's and oh no's!

Put a winning team on the ice. You start winning, the rest takes care of itself.

I do want to win, I don’t believe we have to move 8OA in order to do it.

Montour, Risto, Mitts, Thompson, Johnson,
Samuelsson, 2021 first, 2020 second rounder.

Heck move all of them in the same deal if you have to if you want to overpay that way.

The 8th is going to be on our roster this year doing what, exactly? Not making much of an impact, that's for sure, and that's if we don't ruin him in the meantime by rushing him.

Boston built their Cup winning core with a bunch of 2nd (Lucic, Marchand) and 3rd (Bergeron, Krejci) round picks.

This hard on over prospects is getting this team NOWHERE.

I think one of the best arguments I heard made for Monahan is that he isn't a top-line center and he might actually function better on a second line. It's the value of the draft pick that gets me a bit.

I'm all for hanging on to 8, don't think I'm not.

But they better do SOMETHING of significance to turn this around.

- Buff36

The entire reason they would rush or think too much is due to fear of injury due to you hitting them, so ultimately, it is the intent to hurt them that makes them scared to make a good play.

Amending the rule to only allow a player to be hit when he has the puck, and no more point whatever second allowance would be an interesting change.

Works pretty good for Vegas and the Islanders.
- Buff36

Vegas is loaded at forward with talent, and the Islanders employ a trapping style.

Dallas traps as well.

Not every player not yet drafted is capital-e Elite.

Assuming the Sabres choose correctly, they then have to develop the player correctly. The Sabres are (generously) 1-for-3 in the eight hole across 3 GMs and 7 years (if you count risto as a win)

Could they come up triple 7s finally? Of course, but I would rather take the sure thing.

Dahlin
Cozens
Joker
Mitts
Thompson
Johnson
Laaksonen
Samuelsson

Players with a chance:
UPL, Bryson, Asplund, Ruotsalinen.

Says a lot about Dahlin, Cozens, Joker that this is a top 5 unit

- Pegullaville

Funny how different it looks when you switch to prospects, and pull out Dahlin and Joker. You jump from top 5 to average really fast. Promote Cozens and trade 8, suddenly it's bottom 10.

My belief at this point is the Golden Knights’ plan is to sign Lehner to a long term extension, and sources around the league have indicated to me those talks may have already begun.

😂😂😂😂. Omg. Get off your high horse with this 8th overall draft pick.

Again, you can say that about sooooo many other sabres draft picks we have had

How many panned out??

This draft isn’t considered “deep” as previous drafts.

It’s basically Lafreniere then a steep fall / a full on crap shoot where each player gets picked.
