My belief at this point is the Golden Knights’ plan is to sign Lehner to a long term extension, and sources around the league have indicated to me those talks may have already begun.

I can't believe how they treated MAF like That's Some (frank)ed up poop

- GERBE!!!75PTS

How? The guy is on the downside and they got a better guy. By your logic, when do they stop owing him the starter's job?

Jalen Ramsey and the LA Rams have agreed to terms on a massive extension that totally resets the cornerback market. The 5 year $105M extension averages $21M per year and is the largest contract signed by a cornerback.

I'm not moving pick 8 for 2 years of Monahan

I would move pick 8, casey and a d prospect (samuelsson or johnson) for barzal

- navinrjohnson

Who are the guys that pick 8 is worth? Of course it may be 8+. But just in general, who’s worth adding that pick for? And not that they are in play (ie Larkin or Point, I don’t see these two moving).

😂😂😂😂. Omg. Get off your high horse with this 8th overall draft pick.

Again, you can say that about sooooo many other sabres draft picks we have had

How many panned out??

This draft isn’t considered “deep” as previous drafts.

It’s basically Lafreniere then a steep fall / a full on crap shoot where each player gets picked.

- Sabretooth9

The bolded above is total baloney.

Not that Gerbe needs my help here, but the lengths some of you are going to convince yourselves to trade 8 is overboard. It's getting close to the point where you might talk yourselves into never drafting again.

They must think we're the penguins and just toss away first rounders lol..

One we're like the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa we can talk about tossing away picks ..

And people forget they built through the draft too

I'm being told that the 8th overall pick is going to make Monahan look like Alexander Burmistrov.

I think the truth is getting a player of Monahan's caliber at 8 is much closer to the ceiling than the floor

I have little faith in the Sabres making the right pick at #8, regardless of who is left on the board. They fired over half of their lousy scouting department and the survivors are equally lousy. Trade #8 for Monahan straight up. Keep Jack and me happy. I am tired of a decade of no playoff hockey or hope.
- SabreWest

Not an illogical argument. But I think I can see it both ways. 8OA will most likely be a very good player, this is a draft where there are 8 pretty sound picks.

Where do you think good players come from then? Ceilings are higher at 58, where Kucherov was drafted? 79, where Point was drafted? 8 is just a dead spot?

I'm not saying it HAS to be Monahan. No one is. His name just keeps coming up. It could be someone else.

And managing scared gets you nowhere either. If it's Monahan, then worry about extending Monahan in 2 years. If we're good, maybe he stays.

Do we EVER want to win here, or just collect prospects?

I'm done with it.

- Powerslave

They could bring on via trade or UFA signing 2 of Henrique, Copp, Soderberg, Stastny without giving up the 8th overall this year.

Getting 2 of the above would make a massive difference next year.

It doesn't have to be Monahan, as you can get two Centers added to the team to make a giant difference in team performance next year while still being able to keep the 8th overall.

So I hear you, but hockey needs more of that with these guaranteed contracts. I know they need to get paid, but teams get saddled with these bad contracts and it can really sour a relationship. I wish my team would want to win so bad, they get the best guy possible and try to get rid of the guy he is replacing (saving on the cap). MAF was not bad this year, but they saw something and upgraded. I can’t fault the team here.
