I honestly don’t think they are that far off.
Add one legitimate top 6 and top 9 forward, one center one wing. Add a 5/6 LD and a goalie.
For the Sabres, adding that in one offseason seems impossible though - sbroads24
If you trade 8 for Monahan and extend the RFA's, you're tight against the cap, very light on future picks, and your system is weak. Every proposed move is Montour for a fix, and his value is at it's low point. Tough position.

My belief at this point is the Golden Knights’ plan is to sign Lehner to a long term extension, and sources around the league have indicated to me those talks may have already begun.

They probably regret giving up the 14th and 27th picks to get Brayden Schenn too.
They've given up three 1st rounders to build their center depth and what has it gotten them?
1 lousy Stanley Cup. Huge mistakes. |

and that is the frustrating part.. over the past few seasons we have had almost all the same holes.. except for the fact that we added one by trading away ROR |

When did I say anything about not moving the 2021 first ?
There is a difference between the 8th, 14th, and 27th overall picks. They also took a cap dump in Lehtera.

27 + 14 is comparable to 8
The point is they didn't sit there and say "boy, these picks are too valuable." They went out and did something.
They swung for the fences and won big. Meanwhile we've been bunting to get Vesey on first |

I proposed Montour, Mitts/Thompson, 2021 first rounder for a 2C.
That’s more than what Colorado gave up for Kadri.

Who's that package for? That's too much for Bonino, Henrique, Domi and Strome and not enough for Monahan or Cirelli |

casey and a d prospect should easily get domi back and probably something else
you could move montour, casey and say laaksonen and get domi and henrique back
that would change our top 9 drastically and have no pressure on cozens this winter |
