In the last 30 years, here are the U18 players who scored at a higher rate in the SHL than Alexander Holtz (0.26 goals per game)
• Markus Naslund (0.31)
• Peter Forsberg (0.30)
That’s it. That’s all. |

Here’s the points per hour at even strength of every Liiga forward drafted in the top-10 since 2015:
Kakko (second overall, 2019): 2.12
Lundell (???, 2020): 2.03
Jesperi Kotkaniemi (third, 2018): 1.91
Laine (second, 2016): 1.80
Mikko Rantanen (ninth, 2015): 1.70
Jesse Puljujarvi (fourth, 2016): 1.61”
“Lundell’s ability to drive play in Liiga as a teenager is absurd. He finished second in the league with a 61.9 Corsi (shot attempt) percentage. Not second on his team. Not second among teenagers. Second in the entire league.”

Watched the whole game from start to finish tonight. Was a great game - Pegullaville
I have a soft spot for the Raptors, but I think they're out of gas. You can't have that many guys play 40+ minutes and have enough to win the next game. Tatum, Smart and Brown should be too much to handle. |

The new NHL guideline to win a Stanley Cup is to play the regular season to make the playoffs period and then have enough left in the tank to play a tough physical game throughout the playoffs. If you don’t have the grinders you may win the Presidents Cup and take an early exit in the playoffs. Tampa watched the blues last year.
Johnny Hockey is not the answer for the Sabres but there are some good available candidates out there. |

I’d like Domi for that reason. And I like the earlier thought of Monte or Risto and 8th. For Henrique and 6th.
I’d also kick the tires on Krejci.
Having jack, Krejci or Henrique, Domi down the middle would be interesting.
Maybe a Clifford for 4th LW. Could be 3LW depending on if you move mojo.
You’d still need that sandpaper talented 2rw.
And you should keep og larry. Or maybe a Söderberg or maroon there. But it depends on the defensive fancy stats.
Olo. Jack. Samson
Skinner. Krejci/Henrique. ?
Kahun. Domi. Cozens.
Clifford. Og Larry. Concussed Larry. |

I like this.
The part the sabres need to wake up to is that good playoff teams seem to have “tuff to play against” guys that have some hands.
Not MFE or Gaustad or any of the other cast of lovable losers we seem to accumulate.
And no more “buffalo good” players, the ones that the fans think are good but objectively are less than good. Buffalo good players are only good to be coaches or managers. <—- not really
No more guys past their prime like Wayne Simmonds, Regehr, Niedermayer, gionta, etc. no more playing catch up to what good teams do, namely have objectively good or at least effective players. Shoddy drafting and questionable signings have hampered us for generations.
We need a few bigger bodies that can go in the corners and swing more than a purse. Corey Perry size (not saying have to be scoring champs but that would help)
And that my friends is how u build a non bottom 5 team. |

At this point I might actually settle for the Sabres winning golf and sailing trophies. |

Same guys but definitely playing with more sandpaper. The COVID break helped them come into these playoffs playing a different style.
Last year players from St. Louis said the message from Berube before every game was the same. Grind them and pound them.
You can’t play 82 games like that then step it up for the playoffs. |

If you gave me the choice right now between not knowing how next season will go, or guaranteeing the sabres make the playoffs and get swept in 4 games in the first round, id take the guaranteed sweep. That's where I'm at. Give me the 2017 Bills season |
