if i remember correctly, the power battle was above murray between patty lala and those who wanted to tank...at the forefront of that battle was trading miller and, i'm assuming, keeping miller around like lafontaine wanted would have messed with their tanking plans...

would you agree with that?

- Michael Pachla

Who today would have wanted to re-sign a 33 year old goalie in the beginning stage of a rebuild? Especially when many had eyes on McDavid the following year and the tank?

"Miller was expendable in Buffalo because the 33-year-old is in the final year of his contract and the Sabres were concerned he would have little interest in re-signing with a team early in its rebuilding stage."

Wasn't there someone on here arguing Miller was average and Biron was better or just as good, but he's banned so he can't comment. If you do the crime you do the time or something

So, if he was average what a great decision by the Pegulas and Murray to trade him at 33 years old and especially if he wasn't going to resign. They got that right.

I agree. McBeane have done a great job on the Bills side.

if you were in charge, how would you go about establishing that culture?

Trade Montour + for a 2C and sign a goalie who can stop a puck.

Hope that Dahlin, Joker, Olofsson, Cozens take strides in their development and that Skinner has a bounce back season.

Has there been any information on The Core's involvement with making Tage, Mitts, Cozens, etc better during the 8-1/2 months they have had off.
I mean, it is not like the organization has a couple skating and fitness facilities at their disposal which could be used for such purposes.

Those are roster moves and developmental hopes. They really don't do anything for "culture" change, unless Montour is a cancer in the lockerroom...then getting rid of a cancer could be viewed as a step in the culture change process.

Teams? I only saw one guy try and claim the Capitals were treating it like a vacation, which of course the Capitals debunked as complete bullpoop.

Murray backstabbed LaFontaine he definitely got into the Pegulas head.. and then Murray
backstabbed the Pegulas later on and basically had no plans to fix what he started

How did gm murray backstab the pres of hockey ops?...this whole process, if i understand correctly, was over his head

Culture has everything to with talent.

Win games, and you won’t hear anything about culture.

Brady, Belicheck, and Kraft May have been the most toxic trio of the past decade yet nobody cared as the wins and Super Bowls added up.

Kucherov and an assistant coach had to be separated in the lockerroom during round 1 and Stammer is healthy and refusing to play but nobody is complaining that the Lightning are three games away from the Cup Final.

LaFontaine was here for a little over a month. It would take some balls and a lot of his alcohol to already backstab his boss who hired him in so little time but it can be done I guess but the true story seems like something else.

Yikes. Easy, it is not.

Well, first off there have to be VERY CLEAR goals and expectations, right? Everyone (top to bottom) needs to be on the same page, doing whatever it takes, rowing in the same direction, etc etc.

I've always thought that you need a couple of vets who have "been there, done that" to show these kids the way off the ice (how to eat right, train properly, get enough sleep, stop the partying, be a professional, etc) as well as on the ice.

You have to EARN organizational respect, and that trickles down into the locker room, and the Sabres are lacking that in a big way. Winning some games helps that in a big way.

They brought Too many cooks in the kitchen and it blew up ..

I'm just happy they finally get to it their way and will see what happens ..

They should get a clean slate from everybody

- GERBE!!!75PTS

They don’t get a clean slate. At all. They built the mess, so you don’t just get to say “that never happened”. If they fix things, everyone should still remember the poop show for 7/8 years here. It doesn’t just go away. And I think all would rather we win and say they FINALLY did it the right way as opposed to having zero vision and clearly thinking all it took was McJesus or Eichel to makes Buf relevant. Because that’s what it looks like they thought [/img]

Beane also cleared out players who didn't want to be here, and didn't buy into their vision and process and some were good players but didn't have the attitude. It is not always about talent but talent and mindset. The Sabres need to look at that. They also have to build a team that works with the coach, the PROCESS.

No we all didn’t. Having one player regardless how good doesn’t make a team. They play at most, what, 1/3 of the game? It’s every excuse. They’ve been bad, hope it gets corrected then they’ll get praise. Look at it this way. You hate Risto right. He’s a fake tough guy according to you. But the apologist have excuses for him. He shouldn’t be playing 26 min a night, Dahlin took his PP time, he’s been on poopty teams, goalies don’t help him out, wingers fly the zone instead of being available for a pass. Why do the Pegulas get a pass on the terrible ownership, but Risto gets dunked on for his terrible defensive metrics and overall play? Can’t have it both ways

They mortgaged the team's draft picks and a few prospects in the speed up rebuild, spent crazily in FA, so it wasn't just McEichel

And think, that was the most competent team that they’ve had under the pegula regime. That’s what I’m saying. They put all their eggs in one basket, it failed, and have just been floundering since. Fix it get praise, don’t fix it be ready for ridicule. It’s been 8 years of ownership and we haven’t sniffed the playoffs. How is that acceptable?
