If there were vets on the Caps team who were less than pleased with Trotz (and I've read that there were several), I can only imagine how they'll feel under Babs. If nothing else, the entertainment value should be immense... if he is indeed their choice. |

My opinion of Suban being poor defensively isn't based on last year.
His entire career has been offense first dman who takes tons of risks.
But you keep trying to plan him as this responsible defensive dman. I doubt anyone will buy it, but by all means keep going. - burn
I look at numbers and I see his ability to suppress shots and scoring chances despite playing against top competition.
Muzz and Rielly have been the only Leaf D in the past decade that have been able to play against top competition. Subban can and has shown he can be effective while doing it. |

Caps do need a kick in the arse. But I don't think they'll choose Babs. Lavy will likely be hired. |

Give it a rest, a competent GM would not trade for Subban even if NJ offered him with 50% (Maximum) retained.

Exactly why Montreal traded him in the 1st place!

Subban's game is declining faster than bruceflyers IQ. |

Ut-oh, never say never! I think quite a few "competent" GM's might look at that. It just depends on what NJ wants back. If Toronto got that deal for giving up Johnsson....I think Dubas would do it......especially if Pietro is unattainable.

We really need a shooter from the point and Subban brings that. The leafs have been drafting defenders with muffin shots since Jim Benning in the eighties. |

You could just say you disagree
or you can be a Richard and think your opinion is the right one - Santo_44
Except it is.
Does Subban suck? Yes.
Does Subban have a sh1t cap hit? Yes.
Is Subban the type of D we NEED? NO!
What's to argue here???
There are 30 other teams. Pick a different D. You're wrong on this one. Period.
Try again.
PS...kinda rather be a d1ck than a dude that pushes idiotic nonsense incessantly while self inflicting a clear view of their own general stup1dity. But that's just me. |

Pietro is as good as a lock for the Blues. Lots of decent d-men not named Subban will be available either as UFA or through trade.

Should be passing on Pietro either way. Read the blues have offered him 8.25 x 8. The leafs can only offer 7 years, which means they have to offer a 9 mil AAV to get even close.
What's your pairings look like at that point? Spoiler alert, it's not looking good for the 35 minutes a might Pietro and Rielly arent on the ice.
If they can free up 9-10 million they need to be looking at two defenseman who can play the right in the top 4. Balanced pairings are the only way an offense first team can do their thing... |

Perfect. Trade for Parayko, sign Demelo. Instant credible blueline. |

Babcock coaching Washington will break hockey. When Ovi goes to UFA, he'll sign in Edmonton for league minimum. Then he scores 900 goals in a season on Connors' wing. |

The leafs have offense in abundance, I don't think you need to overpay one very good dman. Go get 2 really good dmen. Like you said the other 35mins looks bad without fixing those mins. |

Takes me back, Benning shot the puck like Reilly. At least MacGill was tough, but Louis DeBruske put an awful beating on him once. |
