Hextall may have been a micromanager, and maybe even thought of as a tyrant. Far be it from me to argue with that.

But they guy had a vision, it started with the farm, and he was excellent from that perspective.

With all of the recycled garbage that has come and gone in the GM position in this league, you’d think somebody would give a second chance to a guy who basically built two strong farms. Lombardi himself gave a ton of credit to Ron for those Cup winners, and looking at who we have in the system, I can’t help but think he did another fine job, even if they never come away with a Cup. He certainly put it in motion. He wasn’t given a chance to finish it.

The man should be given another shot. A second chance isn’t too much to ask for with his resume. Who’s to say he hasn’t learned from his mistakes?

If I was a team in rebuild, I’d want that guy in a position to make my draft picks for the next 4-5 years minimum.

Agree and would hope he learned from that experience. He set the flyers up quicker than any other GM I could think of... without gutting it completely.

for them to win again it would take a miracle, as a Philly fan it wouldn't surprise me. On the other hand they don't have great pics in the next 2 years and they have contract issues with lots of holes to fill. On paper Philly is on a better path and a deeper organization.

they have Kapapen, Zucker and Guentzel that are worth something in trade

We had to trade for Grant and Thompson due to lack of depth. We had to sign Hayes because Patrick was unlikely to play. We had to maybe rush Frost and Farabee because they might not ready but we needed someone to play. I don’t like our depth to be honest.

But before acquiring Nate and Grant we still were playing ourselves into a playoff spot. I can see us doing a similar approach for 20-21 season but maybe we swing for a better player since our youth may be able to fill in those two spots. I mean if we let Nate and Grant walk (assuming we do) and say we resign Pitlick. We maybe have 1-2 spots to fight for amongst NAK, Sandin, Twarynski, Bunnaman, Rubstov and then maybe guys like Allison or Lyzcynski are dark horses. You also have to consider Farabee and Frost * should * take a step forward. Having both Lindblom and Patrick back for the year will be huge too, but NoPa isn’t for sure back just yet. I think our depth has a chance to improve for 20-21

If you want to talk about Fletcher then do that, this was about hextall. Those 3 "tweaks" you mention played a major role in the success they had this season. It allowed the defense not to be thrown to the wolves unlike prior years. Nah they were tweaks. Tweaks that the prior GM never made
