Article from LeBrun in the Athletic on Simmonds. Quote from Simmonds

I would love Simmonds on the team. He could help in a lot of ways IMO.

You can't go wrong with him on a cheap deal on the 4th line.

You'd love 2016 Simmonds on the team.

Yeah, I read the article. Maybe he's now recovered from his injuries. Maybe. But he's the kind of player that does not age well.

I just don't think we have the cap space to risk signing him.

Too bad - I like Toronto-born players. Simmonds always franked the Leafs when he played here.

- Atomic Wedgie

We have the cap space to offer him a Spezza deal. He should take that

Bingo - wasn't nedereitter fitting in quote nicely with the Canes?

Please propose a valid leafs & canes trade from your perspective as well.

He was, and honestly he still does, but he just doesn't seem to produce. He's effective and isn't a defensive liability, but he just makes too much money for a guy that can't seem to put the puck in the net.

"Based on the increase in case count, the researchers group, estimated that cases connected to the gathering resulted in $12 billion in public health costs, not including the costs associated with any deaths that might be tied to cases from the event. That dollar amount is based on another estimation that an average of $46,000 is spent on each patient who tests positive for COVID-19."

Gotta love the US medical system.

- Atomic Wedgie

not to give the u.s. health care system pass - but the $46K is based on some sort of comprehensive cost analysis using the Department of Transportation value of injury estimates, lost wages, hospitalization costs etc.

of note, the same guys who came up with the $46k also used an estimate that 47 million people in the u.s had covid by the end of july.

What do you think will happend with UFA TVR? Is he an option for the Leafs iyo?

How much would it cost to take Gardiner off your hands? Salary retained?

not much to take Gardiner off their hands. With Slavin and Fleury being the top two options on the left side, it leaves Jake Bean and Jake Gardiner battling it out for the bottom pair. I'd go with the young, cheap guy.

TVR is a UFA. they'll let him walk.

Simmonds is absolutely out of gas. Sign him and he’ll end up as a healthy scratch sooner rather than later. He looked awful at the end of his time in Philly and he’s only looked worse since.

Thanks

As a RH D, how much do you think TVR would take to sign? Also is TVR better or worse than Ceci?

Wayne Simmonds.

In.

Also, why do we hate Holl so much? He looks fine with Muzzin, they were really good together before Muzz got hurt.

On the 4th line, banging, or PP2 in front of the net? I'm ok with that on a cheap contract.

They took Marleau off our hands so it doesn't hurt to consider Gardiner as a cheap 5 - 6 D if the offer is ok.

better than Ceci.

I think he's going to be one of those vets that kind of gets squeezed. suspect he'd take a short term deal for lower money in hopes the cap goes up next year.

Yes I would. For the Canes to retain half his salary... might as well just sign Gudas or DeMelo. Both would be better than the Return of the Gardiner.

to CC's defence, I'd say he's a bit more complicated than that...
