But that's my point: there is a guy being "carried" on almost every pairing in the NHL.

Because cap and reality of the situation that every team is in.

holl was given a $2m x 3 deal at 28 after 52 games in the nhl.

seems pretty rich for a guy like that.

Gudas is one D I hope the Leafs sign.

- dmnted

im not minding the idea of signing gudas.
Depending on price and term.

an interesting study came out on the psychological effect of acetaminophen on risk-taking.
https://academic.oup.com/...1093/scan/nsaa108/5897711

this is relevant to the NHL, since lots of players (including enforcers, e.g. Boogard (RIP)) are on these painkillers.
being on prescription drugs that would increase (or induce?) risk-taking behaviour seems like a bad idea, in particular for the enforcers..

I always wondered why I felt more daring when I had a Tylenol.

He was absolutely our third best defenseman in the playoffs.

Not sure if that's good or bad for him.

- joel878

Yeah, I'll disagree with that.

lol.
People arent use to seeing quality D.

He was ok, but nothing special

- Fakepartofme

Agreed. After the first game he played decent. Minus the worst change in the history of hockey in game 5.

Watching the essentially equivalent defense of the Knights on paper perform so well, one has to wonder...what's going on?

I agree. The $2M isn't terrible really, but to me the problem was giving him 3 years. There was absolutely no reason to do so.

Rielly - Muzzin - Dermott - Holl - Sandin - Liljegren - Lehtonen.
seems like most of Leafs' D for next season is set - with the obvious lack of that 1st pairing - d-man that can pair up with Rielly.

Rielly -- ??
Muzzin -- Dermott
Sandin -- Holl
7th: Liljegren / Lehtonen.

the issue with leafs is team-d , starting with FWs.
too many floating wingers, and Leafs need a #3C.

Get rid of Nylander, Johnsson, Kerfoot -- and instantly team defense is better.

Hyman - Tavares - Marner
?? -- Matthews -- Mikheyev
Robertson -- ?? -- ??
Engvall -- ?? -- ??
13th/14th: Barabanov, Gauthier

in short - Leafs' lineup needs more work on FW than on Defense.

Pesce for Andersen is gaining momentum. #LeafsForever

other minor parts are involved. Leafs not biting yet

They obviously just love being in Edmonton so much that they don't want to leave yet.

This I agree with.

I hope Sandin gets a chance next year; the sky isn't falling if we don't win the cup next year either.

Andersen for Pesce is a great trade for the Leafs.

I think LeBrun said they were hesitant to add Pesce in a Laine deal because it would be too many assets leaving the Hurricances.

Being slow and not keeping up with Engvall means that two guys are always back defensively. It's a prefect plan!

I know the Leafs can't afford him, but there are numerous reports that Pietrangelo is not happy in St. Louis..
Apparently, he didn't like that the team dealt with other defensemen first, and didn't like the Armstrong comments (81.5/23). Also, the team is not offering him more than a 5 year term..

So, maybe there is a chance.. Maybe?

there's almost literally no way this happens unless something more than Andersen is coming back.

I like him and all, but the gap between a .915 goaltending and .908 goaltending doesn't seem like a big enough difference to trade a guy like Pesce.

I do think we could see a Severson for Johnsson type deal..

There cap hits are similar, but Severson's actual salary will start to rise, whereas, Johnsson's salary will drop due to the signing bonuses, he's received..
This will help NJ, keep cap numbers in line but pay lower salary
