I think Robertson is not on team next season .
for contract purposes.

Lots of variables for all developmental players. Will there be junior hockey and if so will it be a poop show.

Borders are closed and numbers aren't trending the right way so it's hard to imagine the AHL operating ..at least in Canada.

Do you send some kids on loan to Europe to get games?

His best spot might be in Toronto. The NHL has the resources to bubble-up. Maybe the league lets them carry extra bodies so that they can practice and develop a handful of young guys with the big club.

how much does Barzal get?
related what is the offer sheet compensation?

- senstroll

Barzal should get at least $9M per season.. If Anders Lee can get over $6M, Barzal should get a lot more

I agree. But is that saying much? Is that saying we extend him until his late 30's and give him a raise?
- RogerRoeper

no, but i dont think anyone is suggesting that.
However, who do we replace him with that will be better and cheaper?
Also, if we dont fix team D and the defensive holes we have, will a change of goalie bring different results?
Maybe, maybe not.

That’s true of any goalie but soft goals happen no matter how structured the defensive play.

Freddie’s a good goalie who didn’t lose the Leafs that series all by himself. But it sure would have been nice if he had stolen a game along the way. No matter how much magic Dubas pulls off, they’re not going to be a defensive juggernaut by next year. Getting a goalie who can steal some games in critical situations might be a priority.

But, everything is black and white here, so never mind.

I like this idea and the problem I see with it is there's very few goalies on the market, or expected to be on the market who can definitely do that.

I know a lot of people want to target Georgiev or another young goalie ready to step up but that's unproven.

My goalie target would be Lehner. I think he's healthy, he's at his best right now and MAY come cheap enough.

I think Crawford is becoming too injured and Holtby I think will be paid too much.

so he is in the compensation range
2 First Round Picks
1 Second Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick

A team should def offer sheet him for that.

True.
Hes capable of stealing games and carrying the team for a bit in the reg season, but has yet to do so in the playoffs.
Maybe he needs a series under his belt to get going? Dunno, never made it past the 1st round

At 5/6 years he's worth 8.5-9.0 and at 7/8 he's worth more. I guess it depends on Lou's willingness to move some parts to get him signed long term or does he hold tight to the cap space and give him a 3 year bridge?

I'm thinking with cash and covid issues they end up bridging. 3 x 7'ish.

Doesn't have to be both. Equal and cheaper is a big win for the Leafs in the Cap world.

Until he gets targeted to an offer sheet for 8.75M by Bergevin pulling another Aho.

Isles match, destroying their initial plan and curse Bergevin behind the scenes for the trouble while laughing at him in front of the media.

I think the goalie market is waiting for the buyout period to start. Vegas and the Rags both have some decisions to make.

Is there a fit for the King out there where the Rags eat half his contract/cap hit? I don't think so ...and so the Rags probably buy him out and he signs cheap with some cushy contender.

The Flower is interesting. I think his numbers are still pretty good? If so would a team take him at 5 million? ....4 million? Vegas will eat cap/salary to make a trade work so that they can re-sign Lehner.

Columbus (and the Isles) was the team sniffing around an offer sheet for Marner. Columbus could/should get in on Barzal too.

Vegas has a cap problem too. I am unsure if they have the stomach to take on retention money right now.

I think they look to move a guy like Martinez and his final year at 4 million if they can.

So what about Mark Borowiecki as a depth interviewer? Wouldnt it be awesome to see him interview a panel of Shannahan, Dubas, and Peddie?

It sounds like (and makes total sense) that is exactly what they want to do.

Can't imagine a team is taking his full salary/cap hit though.

Vegas can eat 2-3 million and suddenly it's interesting.

that would be 4 first round picks...for an OS

too steep, the highest for a 6 year deal would be 8.75 ..to only cost

2 First Round Picks
1 Second Round Pick
1 Third Round Pick

Maybe you're right, maybe we are underestimating how much Lehner wants. Maybe he wants a Bobrovsky deal. 8 or 9 million over 7 years. He MIGHT get it but that's too rich for the Leafs and Vegas.
