Would love Weegar.
He costs there Leafs the 15th overall however...Makes me wonder if FLA would cheap out and sign Weegar long term and trade Ekblad instead.
Either way I'd love Ekblad or Weegar. - Santo_44
If Weegar is a young physical talented top4 RHD then he's worth pick #15. |

Hamilton and Pesce are both really good, and are the two guys that the Leafs need the most.. I can't see Carolina trading Hamilton.. Maybe if he asks for Roman Josi type money.. Pesce is a solid #3-4 guy and is on a great contract.. I don't see him being moved either.. - PatC80
1 year left.
Lots of variables, hard to say a player is untouchable with these circumstances. |

yes he may have.
But the reasons seem to have been provided that could link to why.
Arent you always calling out people for "recency bias"?
From what ive seen, pesce would look good on the leafs.
But im no expert and my charts arent pretty. - Fakepartofme
I am not doubting he would look good.
Was just pointing out he had a bad year and the Canes GM overrates him.
PL said they probably don't even trade him for Laine. |

I don't know if he's exactly what they need, but he'd be a help. You can play him 20 minutes per night against literally anyone and not have to worry that he's going to cost you a goal.
Less Physical than you'd expect, but he's great at getting into passing lanes and breaking up plays. - BINGO!
You had me at the first paragraph. |

I give you props for highlighting this guy a few weeks ago. He's got good numbers and seems like a nice fit if they can pry him out of the FLA.
Offer sheet ....4 x 4.2 with big bonus/cash. Then hope Florida's force to work out a trade. - The Law
would weeger be a 4+ mil player at this point?
he has basically Travis Dermott career #s so far

I could be wrong but I think he's a nice fit with Rielly long term. A top 4 RHD at 4 milly for 4 years is exactly what this team needs.
In fact they need two of them ... |

Barkov has been in the rumour mill the last year because they don't want to pay him in 2 years and that last year is heavily backloaded...All bets are off with Florida.
They traded Trocheck for meh pieces just to save money. - Santo_44
Don't they have a new GM again? |

Comparing him to Dermott is insulting to Weegar. - Santo_44
sure, but looking at the standard stuff most people do, age/career games/points
most people never heard of weeger

let's not go down this path... Point being a different GM likely won't make the same mistakes the previous GM made |

I doubt any GM in the league would want to trade Barkov....
Come on man, its not hard to see the owner heavily influences the Panthers moves.
Do you think the GM wanted to trade Trocheck for scraps in the midst of a playoff push? |

He's definitely a late bloomer type. I think I saw some "projections" on him that had him beginning to develop into a nice top 4 RHD. At 26 he'd be a few years ahead of Dermott plus he's a righty.
Can't say I know much more but IF they like him in that role then he's an option ...maybe? |

A way they could get Hamilton without Nylander is
Rielly, Kerfoot
Hamilton, 13th overall pick
Canes pay a bit of a premium for getting an extra year of a great contract and save money
Then the Leafs can flip the 15th overall for a 2nd pair D.
Dubas has plenty of options and I wouldn't throw out the idea of possible fireworks. |

yes. our eyes must have deceived us.
dubas' spreadsheets were correct.
the dubas plan could be to trade freddy so he can sign barrie. |

He produced great numbers 2 years ago in a sheltered role...those numbers suggested he would produce well in a top 4 role.
Those projections were correct. |

Trocheck's play dropped off considerably in the past few seasons, after that scary ankle injury and he wasn't nearly as good defensively and he was overpaid.. I don't think it was just because the team is shedding salary.
I think trading away a non-core player was a final attempt to Tallon to try and get the players motivated, a kind of "this is on you guys, you fix it" message |

That number just came from an offer sheet hypo. 2nd round pick compensation. He's probably a year two away from UFA so I imagine he'll cost something close to that to give up 2-3 years of UFA.
I'd agree though he probably gets less and stays in FLA.
Although how does he compare to Andersen in Calgary and Petterson in Pittsburgh? Similar points of their careers I think? |
