Trocheck's play dropped off considerably in the past few seasons, after that scary ankle injury and he wasn't nearly as good defensively and he was overpaid.. I don't think it was just because the team is shedding salary.

I think trading away a non-core player was a final attempt to Tallon to try and get the players motivated, a kind of "this is on you guys, you fix it" message

Read up on the Panthers financial situatuon

Their current owner made it public that they need to cut 10M off player pay roles BEFORE the pandemic.

I'd sign him 4 years.

They could get a really good value contract here...but FLA could want to keep him for that reason and trade other contracts away.

Either way I would be happy with the 15th overall for him and maybe a mid pick.

Maybe ...depends how many of his UFA years you want to lock up.

Looks like he's got 2 more RFA years. So he could go to Arb and get what? 2 to 2.5 for 1 year ...then, if he's good again, he got 1 more year at 3-4 before he hits UFA?

If he's truly a top 4 RHD he's staring at 5+ per year.

Avoid the 1 yr deal ...he'll be 27 in January ...I'm thinking the 4 x 4'ish is pretty good if you like him in that role.

I am aware of the Panthers situation, I am saying that Trocheck being traded wasn't just because of financial constraints. There was a reason for it.. That is, he was not the same player he was prior to that scary injury.

Why do we need to?

We are in Corey Pronman's top 4 for prospects.

No, seriously.

Dreger said on TSN1050 that he talked to 2 GM's yesterday who have regularly spent to the cap in the past who said they are unsure if their owner will let them spend to the cap next season

I think there will be some shocking money moves made this offseason.

8.5-10 easy. Except it's Lou and he's dealing with a non-vet player...so 6.5 x8!

How did that approach work out with Kovalchuk in NJ?

And Mr. Pronman has Buffalo at 5. Yeah.. Buffalo, and he had the nerve to title his on-going piece the "2020 NHL Organizational Rankings", which to the un-initiated might seem like he is saying that the Sabres are the 5th best organization in hockey.

I can’t see how they can possibly let Lehner go now and if he hits the market I don’t see how we can afford him.
