I do not think Simmonds is worth signing. I think he would be horrid as a leaf with their style and at some point the wheels just fall off a guy. I prefer Spezza for the old vet player as he plays center at least. - Aaron_85
As much as I loved Simmonds when he was with the Flyers, I think he's cooked. Just too much punishment over the years. |

I can't see Barrie getting a raise.
The thing I keep thinking about is the uncertainty surrounding the 2020-21 season. Nobody seems to want to talk about that.
Will there even be a season? All Canadian division? How many games?
I just don't think it's financially viable for half the franchises to play without ticket sales.
NBC is adamant that the season will have to end by the third week of July.
Are companies really going to re-up on luxury boxes in non-traditional markets?
I see a lot of teams not spending anything next year - just basically hoping to survive until things get back to "normal" - which won't happen for a while.
Yeah, sorry to be such a downer. - Atomic Wedgie
Vaccine November 1st. Season opens December 1st. Plan the (Inauguration) parade |

5.75 million isn't 60% on his worth. I never thought he would get 8 million.
Would he get 6? Quite possibly.

If that deal didn't fall through it would have been the most cap circumventing deal in history...also he was a veteran. - AdamFrench
He was a veteran, and he certainly maximized his return. Agree that deal was a beauty as far as weaseling out of the Cap. But Kovalchuk was having cognac and vodka playing with his Russian buddies and living off that contract for quite a while. Meanwhile NJ was sucking bigtime.

In this case, I think it has a lot less to do with the GMs, than a mandate from above and an internal salary cap. I mean, given a free rein and no salary cap, GMs would be super silly indeed. If there's no silly season, it will be because of the bean counters, not because the GMs are suddenly embracing fiscal sanity. - Doc_Sarcasm
And just the regular, good old salary cap.
Take a look at the Coyotes. They are absolutely franked.
Same with Tampa. |

My prediction is he gets $4.5M on a short term deal. |

I was shocked to see someone's column yesterday (or day before) with Arizona as the most (frank)ed team salary-wise. But, apparently it is so. |

6 guys to sign, and just over $1M to do it.
At least there's no possibility now of re-signing Hall - hard to imagine them building a great future with no cap space and no picks for the next decade.

Just reading an article in the Athletic on Vegas' options with Lehner and Fleury.
That's a sticky mess.
This whole offseason is going to be must see TV - I really wonder if they are going to have to get creative with the CBA - create a taxi squad that doesn't get counted against the cap.
Anyone here think there will be an AHL season in 2020-21? |

Its just that they are usually Team Salary Floor and not Team Up Against the Cap, arent they? |

They have four bad contracts Stepan, Keller, Kessel and Schmaltz. Five if you count OEL |

Unless the big teams pony up money to help the AHL bubble as well, they won't have a season I think.

it's so bad and who are they going to ice? Like a goalie has to go for sure. An old D-man has to go and there's a NMC to Grabner of all players!

kessel and stepan are done. complete anchors. grabner is also pretty much done.
schmaltz is overpaid, would be tough to move. but at least he's a decent player.
keller's big contract kicks in next year. he needs to find is role as a play maker. too weak of a shot. if he doesn't find some confidence, that contract will start to really smell bad. |

Doing rough, back of the envelope math:
Andersen had 65 points (29-13-7) in 52 games.
Campbell had 7 points (3-2-1) in 6 games.
Extrapolated over an 82 game season, that's 102 points.
Then allow me to add some blue-koolaid factors:
They played much better post-Babs.
Rielly and Muzzin injuries.
The goaltending wasn't the problem - same as against Columbus. - Atomic Wedgie

I think one of them is movable. Kessel likely to be picked up with some retained salary. Someone will think he just needs a change of scenery.
