Once the season ends moves are going to come fast and furious.

But how many teams are looking to take on other teams' bad contacts?

And here's the point I always love: we don't actually know what the penalty is for a team being over the cap when the season starts.

It's going to be wild.

In previous years, it's been you only get enough active players that fit under the cap. Don't know if there's going to be harsher penalties instituted.

I'm surprised more deals from teams out of the playoffs haven't been done. I'd be looking to shed salary if I were Arizona and I'd rather be leading the way getting what I can get then trying to hold out for more return and end up stuck with the contract.

GMs have to be honest with their owners on what do they value. Surviving with the cap or getting the most assets in return for a player/contract.

I suspect teams have plans A, B and C. GM's likely have trades in principle agreed upon. Lots of irons in the fire. GMs need to be super prepared for this off season. Entry draft, Free agency, expansion draft planning, trades. Teams like Tampa who need to shed cap space to re-sign key young players. The league wide goalie musical chairs bonanza.

I expect a few teams to be temporarily over the cap. The Leafs could be one of them. Dubas may strike quickly to fill needs then get under the cap later. Some teams will be dumping payroll like crazy. Like Florida. Ottawa has lots of cap space but have a cheap owner. Red Wings have lots of Cap space and lots of money but are committed to a long term rebuild. It'll be VERY interesting to see what teams look like after all the dust settles.

6 guys to sign, and just over $1M to do it.

At least there's no possibility now of re-signing Hall - hard to imagine them building a great future with no cap space and no picks for the next decade.

they'll move hossa to ltir - gives them $5M of cap space.

c.fischer is an under utizlized big physcial forward. lybushkorn is a big physcial no frills steady bottom pairing dman.

the yotes probably walk away from a 2-3 year / 1.5-2M offer sheet with a fat signing bonus.

Andersen to Chicago for Connor Murphy and a 2nd rd pick would also be nice.

I think there's a lot more to the panthers than that....Especially now all their decisions will be based largely off $$$.

Nylander is only getting paid 3.5M, 6M, 6M, 6M in his last 4 years. That would heavily interest FLA.

Also FLA is allowed to make more than one trade. Barkov has been in the rumour mill for the last few years.

Also they are losing Hoffman, Dadanov and traded away Trocheck...They absolutely might want to add offence.

He has been? I've only read that he's their main untouchable.

I've been reading his stuff for a few years now, and I have to say that I'm really not a fan.

Also, in Dom Luszczyszyn's column on the Top UFA's in The Athletic, he has Barrie coming in at slightly over 7M/per. He also quotes Evolving Hockey as saying basically the same thing. What say you all?

Leaf fans weren’t happy with him at 2.75 mm this year, but that could also be because of losing kadri.

I honestly wouldn’t touch him as a ufa from what I saw this year as a leaf.
