Leaf articles, trade up, trade down, keep the pick, trade the pick and sell the pick. The writers for this team are always worth a laugh.

Bingo - wasn't nedereitter fitting in quote nicely with the Canes?

Please propose a valid leafs & canes trade from your perspective as well.

It’s your overall attitude towards a lot of comments like that

It’s your trademark to question leaf fans

Whatever, you do you

- Santo_44

So....youre not suppose to question leafs fans?
My overall attitude of asking for justification of comments?
How dare I!

It was an honest question, he couldnt answer outside of a goofy remark.

Didn’t expect you to really realize what you are doing.

Thought you might get it with the responses you usually get, like the last one.

Like I said, you do you mediator.

Second most goals scored since entering the league.

That's impressive, no doubt about it.

Too bad he couldn't have been healthy the entire way. Could've (would've) been 4 consecutive 40 goal seasons.

Only player ahead of him? Ovechkin. Matthews is first in EV/5v5 goals.

He's bound to win a Rocket Richard at some point.

Funny how him and Laine will be in direct competition in that regard.

And no, I'm not starting the old Laine vs Matthews debate, it's pretty obvious who the better player is.

Jesus man look at his stats. Goals, faceoffs, takeaways, plus/minus, blocked shots.
Now look at the first overall picks since he’s been drafted, and tell us that the leafs aren’t blessed to have him.
But I guess to you 40 goal rookies are a dime a dozen. Snap out of it, you’re acting stupid.

Oilers and jets are both light on draft picks this year. they may want to move down.

15 and 106 to Edm for 14

15, 44 & 106 to Win for 10

- Tumbleweed

or to Florida for the 12th pick.

and select a goalie maybe?

Way too rich, the irony only gets better after some reflection.

The Leafs were a last place team. The Leafs are a last place team.

Matthews is not McDavid or Eichal or perhaps, even Laine or Puljujarvi. Yet Leaf fans have created this huge expectation around a kid that was not nearly the force of the Finns on the big stages of international hockey last year.

Not sure why the Leafs have delayed in signing him to a contract. Perhaps they think he is going to need some AHL development time. Nobody is hoping against Matthews, he should be a good player. But, there is absolutely nothing in his track record that suggests he will be an impact player in the NHL next year. Perhaps, there is a fatal flaw in the Leaf charism. If Matthews is put out head to head against veteran NHL centres every night and fans expect him to outperform all comers it is going to be a very long and disappointing winter for the blue and white.

I understand the importance of the summer season for Leaf fans. It is an opportunity to renew hope and create a bond with the team in the belief that next year will see the Leafs finally triumph. It is the Oiler model of a few years ago that had Yakupov (like Matthews, an older profile draft pick) dominating scoring in future NHL seasons or RNH being the slickest centre to come along in years.

Always keep in mind the notion that "we are different," is something that is really well understood. We know Matthews is not McDavid, not even close. We want to believe that he is better than Yakupov. Likely he is in the same range as RNH, but he will likely struggle to produce numbers as good as RNH got in his rookie year (18 goals, 34 assists in 64 games).

Agree.
But usually Dubas seems to prefer more pics rather than lower picks.
With no 3rd this year or next, I cant see him moving our 2nd.
Unless he brings in more picks via another trade.

Don't make fun of the Leafs as they have 15 generational players on their roster at any given time.
