This is where Sven and Loui help teams meet cap spending.

Aren't you the same guy who said the Canucks would never get a recapture deal over the Luongo contract?
I do agree though, Loui will look good in an Ottawa Jersey along with Jake or whatever is the sweetener.
I mentioned this about 3 weeksl a ago, but it got zero traction on this board, until it was brought up by someone else 2 weeks later.
Lol

Maybe LE + JV for Dallas(Or NYI) 2nd rounder? Both are later picks in the second.

I hope they use common sense. Benning said yesterday on TSN Demko is our goalie of the future. Don't get into a long term expensive contract with Markstrom. Benning also said Markstrom has earned the right to test the open market.

Loui for Fluery retain 2 mil per year on Loui.

What does Vegas add? Fluery is about as much of a bad contract as LE is right now.

We haven't won against Fluery in what 9 years? What is wrong with Fluery?

He was 27 -13-5 GAA 277 SV% .905 for 3 mil per

I'm good if Marky stays or goes either way, If Benning can't ink Marky at $975,000 X 6 he's a pretty crappy GM.

His contract is 7m and Vegas went looking for a different starter at TDL because they had no faith in him. He still has more to give, but he isn't valuable at 7m. If we retain 2m (essentially making him a 9m contract) Vegas would need to add in this case.

LE(2m retained) for Fluery + Devils 3rd rounder

I like Bennings attitude this year. If they want to stay we will try to work out a deal.I forget who mentioned it but Vancouver is now a good landing spot for players.

If you look at it as it just cost you 3 mil off your cap space for a starter goalie it is easier. I don't see teams lining up to take Loui.

Hardly, Fleury is an NHL starting goaltender, and still a good one at that, Eriksson is a worthless overpriced bottom six forward.

With no money coming in and businesses hurting, Aquilini is probably pretty mindful of cost right now too.

“News: At least 17 #NHL teams have reduced the pay of hockey operations staffers, including GMs and coaches, as they feel the crunch from COVID-19 and the uncertainty of what lies ahead.“

Canucks were one of those teams.

That will be a league wide problem , I agree. Some teams like Leafs will still have carte blanche but teams maybe like Carolina TB Fla Nash might tell the GMs to hold on.

I think though Aquilini will spend to the cap.

“Six of the seven Canadian clubs have reduced the pay of staff members, including team presidents, general managers and coaches, team and league sources have told TSN. The Toronto Maple Leafs are the lone Canadian club to not reduce pay for staff to date. In all, at least 17 NHL clubs have reduced pay to hockey operations department staff members.“

“Vancouver Canucks: A 20 per cent reduction for all staff. Coaches reinstated to full pay on July 13.“

What's more intense: FA's love of money, or FA's love of the Canucks?

I know he's conscious of the money flow – everyone is – but I think those reductions are just part of the wait-and-see idea. Have no idea what the league is going to look like when it starts back up. As well, the players all have a 20% reduction on their contracts.

JB on Leivo:

On Thursday, Canucks general manager Jim Benning told Postmedia News that if the team had made it to the Stanley Cup final — the playoffs are currently in the conference finals, one round short — Leivo would have been an option to play.

“His rehab has gone well,” Benning said over the phone during a break from the team’s hockey operations meetings.

“We’re going through our options right now,” he said. “We’ve got some other things we’re working on, but he’s definitely still an option.”

Leivo signed a one-year, US $1.5-million deal in the summer of 2019 and was a handy middle-six forward for the Canucks in 2019-20, putting up 19 points in 36 games before suffering his injury.

“He’s a big body, shoots the puck well, is a smart player. He played well for us,” Benning said.

Earlier Thursday, Benning had told TSN 1040 “he’ll be ready to play next year for us.”

Benning’s inclusion of “us” sounded like perhaps a new contract had already between agreed to by the team and the winger, but when asked to clarify Benning told Postmedia News no deal had been reached and reiterated they were still considering the overall options at play.

“He played well for us. We haven’t ruled out re-signing him.”

If I was a free agent I would get hold of Loui Eriksson and ask him for his agents card.

Canucks always under spend on their hockey ops staff though, FA doesn't shy away from paying the players plenty

With the current economic climate, I just don’t expect the Aquilini group to just throw caution to the wind, nor do I expect them to spend to the cap max if there’s no gate revenue next year.
