Agreed. But I want JB to be mistake free to make up for the boneheaded signings of the past. Too much to ask? - bloatedmosquito
The Beagle, etc. signings are what they are and part of a useless neverending circle argument IMHO. End of the day, we will likely never be able to accurately measure their impact on the young core i.e. from a mental strength and development standpoint. Their on ice stats are weak in many cases/metrics but you also hear the anecdotal stories of how Tyler "rental" Toffoli was a big influence on Petey during the playoffs, etc...but how do we measure that and weigh it against the weaker on ice metrics?
As long as the team resigns the young core (likely 3 year deals and then a big deal) and they keep developing, hard to argue the Beagles of the world didn't do their job or weren't worth the money. If this team becomes Edmonton or Buffalo then the opposite is likely true. |

Can you imagine the hilarity of anonymous posters providing their hockey opinions on a site dedicated to hockey talk. Crazy.

I think at the time of the trade and still today they had /have intentions of bringing him back . The price and term has to be okay because as it stands now a lot of teams are trying to move players so there will be many other deals available. |

Agreed, I believe their intention is to sign him but if they don't we will never hear the end Madden's name being mentioned haha |

In retrospect, if Jim Benning would’ve just been patient, Jared McCann would currently be an excellent third line center option for the Canucks and who knows what that 33rd overall pick would’ve turned into.
Much like the mess you’re seeing in Phoenix right now, from trying continual quick fixes, is what Benning did his first three years in Vancouver. Which is why I hate him, well that and he talks like a dumbass. |

The third team is willing to get rid of him in 5 years. I am not sure he is the bargain that most think he is.

They want to re-sign him, that’s why they traded Bjugstad. |

As Vantel mentioned earlier, they did well in the playoffs so you can’t argue with the results. Personally I think it had more to do with the tremendous goaltending than anything else but it’s still a team game.
But the one facet most of use can judge is the management of the team. Critiquing signings and trades is fair game IMO. Most here can accurately pick out obviously bad management moves without the need of a crystal ball. LE is a prime example. When that signing happened most if not all of us were like WTF? |

Could resign all the players that actually have value, keep money back to pay Peterson and Hughes their 10m next year and actually compete indeed of trying to be creative to fit everything under the cap. Don't care what anyone says, this team is weaker next season due to these horrible, vastly overpaid, 4th line players. |

Truth.
The real kick in the nuts is that the Canucks will try and fix these stupid moves by having to include “sweeteners” like JV, prospects, picks, or retained salary to get deals done. |

I said the same thing days ago when I pointed out that LE + JV for a 2nd round pick is a horrible trade for the Canucks. Many were just fine with it.
IMO, JB has to turn guys like JV into serviceable players because there’s no one in the prospect pool right now that could fill his shoes regardless of how disappointing his play has been so far. If this team is going to be top 10 then every position on the roster has to get better whether through personal growth or replacement. No regression allowed. |

But.... I had heated arguments and was told repeatedly that it would not be an issue.... it already is ffs.....
Stupid short sighted ..... rrrr
Bye bye one of toffoli, markstrom or tanev.... I'm more worried about next year, we may need around 20m to resign Hughes and Peterson... |
