Mark borowiecki to test free agency. Not sure how he is defensively, but he provides a much needed physical edge and "protection" that the team could use

I like him . I threw his name around a few weeks ago. I think it depends on his asking price but he seems like a good team player. Definitely a tough guy who can score . Canucks can use him for sure.

JB said aside from our own UFA's he's staying out of the market this year, electing to promote from within.

I think that aspect of an upgrade would come from a "hockey trade" of sorts. We know Jake's probably gone, maybe Demko, so there are pieces to make a deal.

And that is probably the best way to go (trade).

I am not sure about Demko going. I think they want both but it depends on what Markstrom wants. Canucks could go with Demko backing up another starter at a better cost. That said I think Makstrom comes back and paid between 5-6 per.

Benning seems a little hard ass this year like if you want to be part of the team we will see if we can fit you in or enjoy your new location.

Definitely trades are going to happen. JB's not an idiot, he knows where the team's at and where it needs to go. He's talked about not heading the UFA route and not trading high draft picks away. Trades are the only option he has left.

Hopefully he only makes $975,000 or he won't fit here long term.

He will demand much more and will get much more, which is too bad cause the canucks could really use him.

Too bad they don't have the cap space.

It sounds a bit like they want Marky in order for Demko to get some solid development this year, and then choose which one to keep. Trade one, or make a deal with Seattle to keep em both and expose the one they like.

I was messaging a buddy about the decisions the canucks have to make this summer and the cap and he sent me this

I actually like drance, think hes a good hockey personality in the canucks media, but I don't think the actual $ will influence any teams to take on any of the players the canucks want to get rid of outside of maybe Ottawa (insanely cheap owner). The actual $ owed is something that was interesting though.

I personally think teams care less about actual salary than they do cap hits given everything

Depends on the owners. Some might actually care, some probably don't give two poops. It's weird times, if their businesses are bleeding money right now why would they want to throw away more on some hockey players?

lol for sure...but the armchair GM's have us capped out at 1mil per player so will take some creative genius by them to squeeze him in.

@ThomasDrance on Toffoli: I think there's a fair bit of skepticism in the industry, among those I've talked to, who believe Toffoli will ultimately want to go back to Southern California. We'll see. I know the #Canucks will try, and they should.

I hope they stay away from another declining asset.

Ottawa needs to make up nearly 20m in cap to hit the floor. Tierney and Brown are their biggest RFA's and neither is due a huge pay raise(Brown likely gets bridged and Tierney gets a 4 or 5 year deal with a bit of an increase). Melnik will want a guy like LE to provide a 6m cap hit with very little owed to him. We pay this years signing bonus and he becomes the perfect player for Melnik.
