I’m not sure if there’s 8 million or 5 million left on his contract, depending on when his bonus was/is paid for next season, but there’s less than zero chance he walks away from even 5 million dollars.
If he managed to get another NHL deal following a mutual termination agreement it would be a one year league minimum deal, he’s not walking away from millions of guaranteed money. |

I don't see these teams housing and feeding 50 people for 6 months so they don't make any money

Freidman said all bonuses needed to be paid by July 1 so I am guessing 5 remaining. Also He has a partial NTC that he has to sign off 15 teams .

Even at 5 million he’s not walking away from that, and he’s said as much to the media. He could be attractive to a cap floor team. |

What else would they talk internally be about, waiving his NTC? They already agreed to that didn't they and no takers. Even the Sens GM can't really justify trading for him. Why I see no other good option.

Why would they house and feed them these guys aren't based out of AHL home cities. Maybe they look into college campus housing that would be empty next to those rinks for discount offerings. They could fill the Bean Pot void for example. But again, operational costs would be linked to NHL clubs and TV deals. |

The two are not linked for reasons to cancel. Plus the AHL plan of action is linked to NHL one. |

No he said he wants to keep playing in the NHL over retiring. Having made around $60M losing a couple to still play is worth it for him.
If its only about $, as you say, Canucks could do a consulting retirement deal like Panthers did for Luongo to save cap. |

Not every AHL team is owned by a NHL team . Utica is not owned by Canucks so they might tell their plyers like Jasek Boucher Hoglander Goldobin to sign overseas . Oh they already did that?

Sorry Canucks own Comets.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utica_Comets
Also, Boucher and Goldy were not being re-singed. Hogs has out clause to stay in SHL if he doesn't make the Canucks. So no that's not what they did.
As far as those few AHL teams not owned by NHL clubs either they get part of the funding or they suspend operations and NHL contracted players dispersed among the remaining teams. |

wouldnt say rebuild but they are at a crossroads and could retool with assets at their highest and go for playoffs 2-3 years down the road. in a flat cap world huberdeau could fetch a ton
2 of their top four will be 35 next year and both hoffman and dadnov are ufas. they obviously have cap space to resign guys but tallon did a poop job building their roster - johnnykarate
Ya it’s very true their back end is old in the tooth with the exception of matheson and Ekblad. That part of the roster needs work, but they aren’t far off imo, certainly not years away.

JB said aside from our own UFA's he's staying out of the market this year, electing to promote from within. - VanHockeyGuy
He did say that but if he fails to sign his UFA's and has limited success in trading, I imagine he'll look at the market.

Joking aside...If an MTA *were* to be negotiated with LE...wouldn’t that trigger a cap recapture penalty? |

No. It was only a 6 year deal. So under the CBA then and now newer one its recapture penalty proof. |

Depends on his motivation cause its also a lifestyle. So if he loves to stay in the NHL he'll have to take a shave after getting so much for not producing.
Otherwise as said, take the retirement package and cash out if its about $ and rest of his life. |

He gets more if he just stays though?! Im confused. It’s his last big contract, he’s got a family. I just don’t see it. But hey, you’ll be the biggest i told you so ever on here haha. Im not so sure enough is ever enough for millionaires. |

Why do you think they paid all that $$$ up front? Perhaps to set up a retirement or MTA scenario. You got two issues here. Player wants $$$ pay him a consulting fee/contract (Luongo type deal) to retire. Player wants to keep playing in NHL and like Bogosian takes the cut to stay in the game.
I never brag about all the other things I got right. So if this one does come out, since its really an out of box scenario, maybe you get a smile.
Of course, they could still try AGAIN to trade him. But what if say the Sens pass. Is there really any one left in flat cap NHL? |

For fun...
Could they retain $1M in salary for the next two seasons in a trade with Ottawa, who would then get a $5M cap hit “for free” for 2020-2021 and only have $3M owing for the final season (or a $2M buyout)?
Sens get “an NHL player” for no cost next year, a $5M boost up to the cap floor, and the ‘Nucks get the offsetting $5M cap savings (I presume the $1M real money retained counts against the cap?). |
