Seems reasonable.
So probably not realistic
on the right side whats better 2, 4 mil D or one for 8?
APiet/Holl/Lehtonen
Manson/Weeger/Holl - senstroll
would rather have two $4M guys.. We don't have the depth on defense to overcome injuries.. |

Manson hasn't been the same the past few years, so maybe that's why his name is out there.
With Dermott, it's not that he is bad, it's just that with Rielly, Muzin and Sandin on the left side, Dermott may be expendable now. I think he is too good to be a 7th d-man - PatC80
As a kid, he always dreamed of following in his dad's footprints of being an ineffectual defenceman for the Leafs, at the tail end of his career. |

Could there be a deal around Nylander/Sanhiem?

Weegar at 4m?
That seems high for someone who has never hit 20pts.
Now I say, not really having watched his game closely. If he earned 1.6 last year and warrants a raise, maybe low 3's.
But it looks like he has never completed a full season yet either, most was 64 games. Not sure if that was injury related or not. |

Ugh hope not. That's what Ek has posted.
I like Sanheim, but not for Willie. If we are looking to move Willie for a D, hoping for someone a little better than Sanheim |

Florida and ARZ are going to gut their team this off season.
Would not be shocked to see an Ekblad or Barkov moved. - Santo_44
Buffalo could be another one to hold a garage sale.
$1.9M in operating income.
Revenues of $135M
Gate receipts of $41M
Hell, they already fired their entire AHL staff so they wouldn't have to pay them.
Although they are really weirdly positioned - only 4 forwards signed for next year (assuming they don't bring anyone up) and 5 D, 1 goalie.
They can probably sign guys off the street at minimum, and really reduce their payroll without having to trade anything off.
Take a look - it's bizarre, but as I've argued here before, it may actually put them in a really good position with the flat cap:

that was my thinking as well.
But than someone mentioned that both those guys could get injured.
And well....
I'd still prefer to have two 4m guys. |

minimal assets for manson.
Willie for manson is simply an overpayment from the leafs and nuts to even suggest imo. - Fakepartofme

I think Sanhiem does fit the mold the Leafs are looking for perfectly though.
LHD that can play right.
Can grow with this young core.
Two way D.
I think you are right though. would think more would be coming back. |

I was looking at the Sabres the other day.
They might even look at some contracts to take with high cap hits and low actual salary.
Wonder if Freddy would be on their radar. |

What about Willy and a 3rd for Sanhiem and 23rd overall?
They'd be able to trade that pick for help elsewhere as well. |

Bring in a $5M guy, bring up Sandin and Lehtonen and either replace or re-sign Dermott. |

Rielly might be the best D in the NHL at driving play...mediocre at D.
Does a good partner make that a top pairing in the NHL? - Santo_44
Easily, look at what he was able to accomplish with Hainsey. This guy deserves for the leafs to go spend assets if they need to in order to get him a young partner capable of allowing him to play his game. |

My guess is the Pegulas would love Freddie.
But he has a limited NTC - 10 teams he can't be traded to.
Ottawa, Winnipeg, obviously. That still leaves 8 more. What are the odds Buffalo is on that list? |

Honestly, any trade involving Willie, I would want a more impactful Dman than Sanheim, one that mainly plays the right side. |
