Bring in a $5M guy, bring up Sandin and Lehtonen and either replace or re-sign Dermott.
- Canada Cup

I watched some vids on Lehtonen yesterday, the gus has some good hands and moves.
Whether he can defend...dunno...but offensively he looks pretty darn good.

Not really. He moves about as fast as a glacial movement now.

If you mean glacial melting, that's quite fast!

Could there be a deal around Nylander/Sanhiem?
- Santo_44

Why do people hate Nylander so much?

Look at where this guy consistently scores from, right in the slot or in front of the net.

Where most of his shots come from

And him compared to the rest of the league where his goals come from. But we want to give up on him at 6.9mil?

If we move Nylander, it is for a sure thing top pairing defence.

Buffalo could be another one to hold a garage sale.

$1.9M in operating income.

Revenues of $135M

Gate receipts of $41M

Hell, they already fired their entire AHL staff so they wouldn't have to pay them.

Although they are really weirdly positioned - only 4 forwards signed for next year (assuming they don't bring anyone up) and 5 D, 1 goalie.

They can probably sign guys off the street at minimum, and really reduce their payroll without having to trade anything off.

Take a look - it's bizarre, but as I've argued here before, it may actually put them in a really good position with the flat cap:

I'm curious how different those valuations are today vs when they did them.

Carolina, for example saw a small bump in ticket sales for the 2018-2019 season which had their value increase by about 7%. But average attendance jumped by over 2500 from 18-19 to 19-20.

Hell, average attendance has increased by over 3500 people since Dundon bought the team.

Conversely, the Sens attendance has dropped by nearly the same amount over the last two years.

Honestly, any trade involving Willie, I would want a more impactful Dman than Sanheim, one that mainly plays the right side.
- Fakepartofme

Well a more established D that is 27/28?

Or a Sanhiem who at 24 is already a top 4 and is on a trajectory to develop into the established 27/28 D you are asking for.

Its a tough decision.

Sorry, those are from his whole career. Guy consistently scores from in front of the net. This is the past season:

Pretty much all of his goals are from right in front of the net or high danger areas.

I think Leaf fans dont think enough about this guy.

Probably fills the PP2 QB role and gets sheltered(at least to start)

Basically a Tyson Barrie that get used like a Tyson Barrie should.

Re Sabers
Step 1 - trade Risto
Step 2 - Sign Alex P.
Step 3 - continue to be awful for a decade

Without Barrie the Leafs will have a hole on the 2nd PP unit.

Leafs "need" cheap players that can outperform their contracts due to their cap situation.

Leafs "need" Lehtonen to be able to be an NHL player. He isn't the solution to the Rielly pairing and who cares. He is making under a M.

that was my thinking as well.
But than someone mentioned that both those guys could get injured.
And well....

I'd still prefer to have two 4m guys.

- Fakepartofme

Unless he craps out in camp, they’re going to play Lehtonen. They went out and got him for 1 year he’s less than $1M and he and Sandin give them cap flexibility to do other things.

Next few years of Forbes evaluations should be very, very interesting.

One thing I don't put much stock in is "average attendance" - it means very little. Gate receipts are a much better reflection of fiscal reality.

For years, the Panthers would give away thousands of tickets a night for free. Hell, you could get a free ticket if you had a Florida i.d. No, I'm not kidding. They also had a deal for a free pair of tix if you bought a submarine sandwich from a chain.

I can't franking believe my money is going to pay to keep the Panthers afloat, when this is what Panthers fans can get:

https://www.groupon.com/d...ls/florida-panthers-03-03

What You'll Get
Click above for a $55 all-inclusive ticket for the Panthers vs the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. ($85 value). Buy here for Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 7 p.m. vs. the Buffalo Sabres.

Originally invented by bored henchmen looking to pass the time at Superman's secret Antarctic lair, hockey has since overtaken polo and unicycle jousting as America's favored pastime. Hop on the bandwagon with today’s Groupon: for $55, you get one ticket to your choice of two Panthers games at the team's home rink, the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise. From the links above, pick either Wednesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Philadelphia Flyers or Saturday, March 20, at 7 p.m. vs. the Buffalo Sabres. Your Groupon is only good on the night of the game you purchase, so make sure to buy from the correct link.

Seats will be in the Coach's Club Level (sections 428–430), which includes access to the Coach's Club, an $85 total value. You'll find out the exact location of your seat on game day. Purchasing multiple tickets in the same order will guarantee seats together; tickets purchased across separate orders will not. Inside the Coach's Club, you'll receive all the buffet-style bites you can eat and all the beer, wine, coffee, and soft drinks you can drink. This upscale experience is nearly 8,000 square feet of comfortable, lounge-style seating and attentive service. If you start feeling too far removed from the action, head back to your stadium seats at any time to get right back in the puck-flying mix.

Hockey is like the magnificent mutt of the sporting world. You get the suspense of watching an object swish through a net (like in basketball or soccer), the thrill of rambunctious brawls (boxing), the elegance of ice skating, and the utter brutality of golf, all combined in one action-packed event. Treat your entire family, favorite group of hockey hooligans, or squeamish dentist to a night of hard-hitting ice-capades.

Can he?

Sandin cant play LD and RD on the third pairing for starters.

Secondly I want the best possible player to be in that 2PP role. Not giving it to a 19 year old by default...Not a recipe for success at all.
