I've read the comments. He is not nearly as wasted as many of you are saying.

He is much better than Clifford, he is a great net front presence, he still hits and can fight, a hometown boy.

Simmonds is exactly what the Leafs need. Especially getting him on a "show me" deal for a couple years.

Wayne could be good for the leafs.
But they have higher priorities first.
Plus i dont see wayne taking spezza money.
Hes still gonna get about 2 -3m per.

Well as the Leafs are my second favorite team... I don’t think there should be any focus until that is taken care of... all this other stuff is just noise.

Take that 15th pick, bundle it with some players and go get 2 real defenseman.
One who can play with Rielly, And the other one who can really solidify a second pair.

Everything else will take care of itself.

it's not Dubas who is coming out saying he is looking at Simmonds. Just because the Toronto media is bringing up stories doesn't mean that's what Dubas and co. are looking at as well. I am sure they are looking to make their defence better and have probably explored different trade options/free agent signings they can make.

Ideally, they can try and sign 1 defence for under market value and then trade for another. Relying on being able to sign 2 will be a mistake. They need 2 defenders and they know it.

Dubas has acknowledged that he needs to improve his defence. If he doesn't at least add 1 piece for the right side, I would be shocked.

Grab Maroon to add to Simmonds while they're at it.

Trade Johnsson and take MAF with $2.5M retained plus a pick or prospect from Vegas.

Trade Nylander...don't like the idea of this but Vorachek +1st +3rd for Jeff Carter or Johansson for Jones...there's a deal to be made there. CBJ for Savard + pic/prospect.

Trade Andersen....don't like this too much but because the $1M only and the CAP savings....there's a deal to be made there too. But go CAR for Pesce...with additional picks either way as needed.

Then with the savings sign one RW for Matthews....Josh Anderson...and Gudas.

Well, Simmonds is a warrior, absolutely one of my all time favorite Flyers and I would love to see him get some more mileage out of his career, especially if he can be effective somewhere.

You said sign AP but he isn't even in your lineup? I don't think I would move Nylander for Savard + at this point. If they move Nylander it'll be for Ekblad, DeAngelo or another young top RHD.

Bang on. What the Leafs have at forward is deep enough to get it done. Some cheap toughness would help. But if Dubas doesn't bolster the defence it won't matter who is playing goal. How many years have fans been clamouring for defence. Just do it so everyone can stop talking about it
