Bang on. What the Leafs have at forward is deep enough to get it done. Some cheap toughness would help. But if Dubas doesn't bolster the defence it won't matter who is playing goal. How many years have fans been clamouring for defence. Just do it so everyone can stop talking about it - Hardbalz
again, leafs media, not the leafs actually coming out saying they are looking at Simmonds.
Simmonds was once very effective in playing a bruising, physical game who could score. But he's essentially now living off his reputation and past glory. I could see Dubas signing him for the 4th line for 1 year $1 million. - gergeswillems

Simmonds is the type of player the Leafs need. A physical, gritty guy that can hit and chip in offensively. The Leafs have the two scoring lines, they need a shutdown line and a grinding line. Simmonds definitely helps..

Dubas, go get Simmonds - PatC80
I would try to grab Simmonds on the cheap - not more than a Million, and also go after Gudas on the cheap. Toughness and grit added on D and up front and I’d even look at Bogosian perhaps as a cheap D option.
Then move some young talent for a stud defensive D man.
Resign Freddy to a 2 year deal at 6 per of you can and give him some solid D and see how he does. I think a Freddy and Campbell duo is fine, Campbell needs to play 25 or 30 games in a full 80 game season.

This game is getting seriously nasty... and it’s awesome - dozerD10
Hockey is fun when you don't have a vested interest in the game. I mean, I want the Islanders to win.. but its a low key kind of want. (frank) Tampa, thats all.

No way Freddie gets a raise. - mjones242
No way he doesn’t get one regardless of if it’s in Toronto or somewhere else based on his performance through his contract in Toronto with terrible D in front of him.
If he deserves a raise is a debate you can have but I don’t see him Staying or going and not getting one.
Toronto might be able to talk him into a 2 year modest raise, I think he likes it in Toronto and is tight with “The Kids” and will want to stay if he thinks they can win.
