you're talking about Danault right?
you expect to get a legit #2C in his prime for a 3rd line winger? - fidopro
Isn’t Danault now a 3rd line center you mean? Or is that just because he has guys ahead of him. So Roslovic a guy who’s never been given a chance because of all the players ahead of him is all of a sudden only a 3rd line right wing?
Didn’t we give you guys 3rd or 4th liner Armia who ended up on your top line?
So you want an excellent player in either Connor or Ehlers both of whom locked up in great deals for over five years for another excellent player who’s a pending UFA in a year. Well that sounds fair lol |

Its interesting to me that. KK and Suzuki (more KK) get a pass as being ready for a 1C or 2C slot over a a small sample size and Danault is suddenly replaceable in that role. |

Armia just happened to be on our 1st line coz he has size, he should really be on 3rd. Danault has a great contract and if he is traded to whatever team I am sure the team will sign him to long term

the fact Habs have two kids they want to slot 1 and 2 doesn't mean Danault is suddenly a 3rd line center. for that matter, is MAtthews a 2nd line center because he plays behind Tavares? that's stupid.
Danault proved he can do the job as a top 6 center. you want him, you pay.
you don't want to pay, fine with me I'd prefer keeping him.
and of course, that would be the price if you guys extend Danault. not as a rental. |

funny hey
imo Danault has even more value for the team because of that specifically (having 2 20 y/o on the other 2 lines)

I would not say KK is the 2C yet, I would have Suzuki and Danault alternate between 1C and 2C until we see KK is ready then decide, so far I have seen good 1st year, bad 2nd year, good 1st playoff, the rest? Your guess is as good as mine |

Ya you clearly missed my point. I was saying the same thing!! The fact that Roslovic is playing behind Ehlers, Connor, Laine, and wheeler doesn’t mean he is is third line player either. He’s never been given a shot higher in winnipeg.

I'm fine with Danault as the 1 or 2C and being in a Carbonneau/Gainey type role. It's ridiculous to assume that the kids will suddenly alleviate to what Danault does on a regular basis. I understand the hope though. As for Domi, its on him to replicate 72 points for the pay cheque, whether its at wing or C or whatever. |

well that's your problem. you have a to give him a chance and showcase him.
or trade another winger and promote him.
but you cannot expect to get the same return for him than for a forward who did the job and put up points on the board. |

I thought the point was he said he didn’t want that role? I realize he doesn’t have a say in that next year but what it probably means Is he won’t re sign in Montreal. So you can trade him now or wait it out, if your out of the playoffs you trade him at the deadline ( probably get a first or 2nd and B prospect) if he’s healthy and if your in the playoffs you keep him and risk losing him for nothing and teams do that all the time, it’s up to MB what he wants to do |

I agree with this. Hard to justify other than to suggest that jets MGMT is inept. |

Danault put up 17 more points, while playing twice as many minutes and is 4 years older.
Man, your talking me into not wanting him. |

He doesn't want to be a 3 C shut down guy. Which is kind of silly to me. I never thought of Gainey/Carbonneau as 3C...or Bergeron in Bs for that matter. Danault needs to just trust his skillset. I think he got jittered by the kids. |

to me there's not really a #1C, a #2C and a #3C.
they all have the same TOI at 5x5, more or less.
after that it's special units, end of period faceoffs, end of game... Danault was and should remain the guy with the most TOI at the end of the game.
imo Habs cannot succeed without Danauld (again with 2 20 y/o on the other lines), not with what he brings. I would even go as far as saying I'd trade Gallagher before him if needed. and I love Gallagher. |

So if TOI is similar I dont know why Danault was concerned I dont see his min on special teams change that much

that would hurt no doubt, but it just shows how important I think Danault is for the team. who else do they have to take an important faceoff? to cover the other team top line?
and it's not like he's not able to produce offensively. Tatar and Gallagher had their best seasons while playing with him. he must do something right... |

he doesn't want to play with Lekhonen and Byron on a 'defensive' line.
keep him with Tatar and Gallagher and he'll be more than happy. he's up for a new contract next summer, pretty understandable. |

I hope they deal Byron this offseason , package him to get something, we need to get bigger for top 9

If Bergevin manages to get help at right wing, it will be easier to leave Danault with his current wingers, assuming he get an impact RW of course. If they keep Drouin he could play with suzuki and new RW, leaving KK with Armia and Lehkonen, the Finnish line has worked well at times. I kind of expect Domi to be packaged with Mete and sone picks for a shiny new RW. |
