Who is the better option?

No matter who I name you will disagree. So I am sure you can find someone on that list who is affordable and a better option

Yes. First pro year. Made the AHL All-Star Game. Had an early season 7-game point streak. Spent time in the NHL. Scored goals in his first two NHL games.

Yes, it was a bumpy ride at times. Yes, there are physical and in-game decision-making adjustments he needs to make. But he is also very coachable and a bright kid.

There isn't always instant gratification on prospects at the NHL level. Frost should eventually be fine and become a bonafide top 6 forward.

- bmeltzer

Agree.

I am on your side with this. I think they just want to see things refined in his game and muscle added. I don't think they soured on him at all.

I don't think Laughton will be playing center unless in a pinch. I think they like him on the wing.

Also I feel like there could be a couple moves in the forwards. Possibly JVR/Voracek if the right deal is there.

And like Bill said, guys like Pittlick might get priced out with the cap not moving and you'll need internal options.

- J35Bacher

I don't disagree with anything you said. Lot of competition on the LW for Laughton. Playing him at 4C really balances the team. NAK could definitely take Pitlick's spot. Frost is going to have a tough time making this team unless a trade is made.

I’d say Pitlick is a better option than Grant.

If it's me I look at it as Patrick is the back up plan. I prepare the best I can and if he is healthy then it's like a bonus. Kind of why Domi interest me. Plays center and wing so just say Patrick is good to go it's not like I need to really change a lot. I know most centers these days can swing out to wing.

It doesn't matter whether I agree or not. You said there is a better option? Who is the better option? We both know the reality is that you have no idea who is a better option, which is why you dodged the question.

Come on. It's everybody favorite defensman we should play on the wing. hahaha. I don't know. Just a guy that interest me because he can play wing and center and seems like someone that might not be staying in Montreal.

Well the point is we would have to give up somebody for Domi. I don't know if they would take Gostisbehere for Domi. I don't know what the Flyers are going to do concerning Braun. If they don't bring him back then we need another defenseman. If they trade Gostisbehere for a forward, then they need to add two defenseman. Internally or externally.

I think if Ghost gets traded and Braun is let go, Hagg is almost guaranteed to come back. You can't have two rookie D-men learning on the job as a pair in the NHL.

Of course they could bring in an alternate from outside the org. Just seems like a lot of moves.

Bill,

Just looking for your thoughts. After next season Niskanen is likely gone. If no one is brought in, who do you think internally has top pairing potential with Provorov. I think the 3 cornerstones are Provorov, Sanheim and Myers. I think York fits more as a 2nd pair guy with PP QB potential. I know there is time but was just curious of how you see the progression on the back end.

- J35Bacher

This year, the Flyers were able to roll three LH/RH pairs. That's not always possible but I think they would like to have two such pairs if possible.

They have one more year with Niskanen. After that, they will need to develop another RH defenseman apart from Myers. York and Zamula both are LH and both should fit in the top 6 mix by 2021-22.

Friedman is RH but I am not sure if he is internally viewed as much more than being on the 6/7 bubble at the NHL level.

Wylie is RH, but we'll have to see first how he develops at AHL level. He isn't a fast-tracker right now. In January, Flahr said that, while he's become an all-situations D as a junior, Wylie is more likely to be strictly a defensive/PK guy as a pro. A guy who keeps it pretty simple when he has the puck.

So, a couple years out, I could see it looking something like this:

Provorov-Myers
Sanheim-Zamula
York- RH defenseman
Hägg, Friedman or another No. 7

My premise already includes Haag as a 6/7 defenseman on the team.

yeah i have no idea who is a better option. Look on that list and you will find several better options. That is a fact so not dodging any question. Though I will play along. Larson from buffalo is a better option.

Gostisbehere and Domi, and this is just my view, are two guys that you could move for the " need a change of scenery" type of deal.

If Braun is left to walk, I think maybe you bring in cheap vet, maybe you get one on a deal if your moving JVR. I think Friedman can be a 3rd pair guy with Hagg. Does Morin need to go through waivers. I am not sure what his value is but would they want to lose him on waivers. He could be your 7 guy.

It's weird because there will be so many moving parts with the cap staying stagnant that maybe you can find some deals that might not have been there previously.

I would let Braun walk and consider trading Ghost but overall, I wouldn’t even touch our defense.
- SuperSchennBros

I like this plan. Also, I don’t give ghost away. I make someone pay handsomely for him. If not, keep
Him and see how he makes out. No rush.

Larsson is listed as a LW. Are we bringing him to play center or wing? What line is he going to play on?

Grant played for the NHL minimum this season and produced 15 goals and 25 points in a bottom six role between the Ducks and Flyers.

Unfortunately, he was one of the guys who wasn't able to recover in the Bubble what he had done before the pause. Go back and watch the Flyers game in Washington and the b2b with the Rangers after Grant came over. Even apart from putting up points, he won a lot of battles. In the playoffs, he didn't add much of anything except for a few plays/isolated shifts.

It is going to be a tight squeeze in the FA market this summer. But even in that market, Grant should be able to land a contract somewhere at a raise. He won't make the minimum again.

I think you could bring in a cheap vet to play as a depth defenseman but how good wold that player actually be? I'm not enthused by a Haag/Freidman pairing.

Again, I don't know if Montreal would be willing to deal Domi for Gostisbehere.

Couturier received top-five votes from 163 of the 170 voters.

Seriously those 7 should not be voting ever
